Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Team as a Director, Data Analytics.
About the role:
Responsible for making Symetra a data driven enterprise. This is a leadership role in the Data and Analytics field delivering solutions that have a material impact on the business. They will lead projects/team that may consist of data engineer/architects/developers, Reporting and BI Analysts, and Data Scientists. Responsible for building strong understanding and relationships within business and IT. They will interact with leadership giving technical recommendations, plans, and roadmaps to both a technical and non-technical audience with implementation responsibility. Must have significant technical expertise in the Data Analytics space. This role differentiates from the Assistant Director level by increased responsibility leading a large function and owner of strategy and implementation.
What you will do
- Strategy development, relationship building, and data literacy within Business and IT: Work with multiple teams including business, IT, and data. Ability to understand their business needs and find creative analytic solutions to improve efficiently, generate revenue, and improve customer experience. Responsible for developing plans/roadmaps and then executing on them. Directs work for tech leads in Data Engineer, Reporting Analytics, and Data Analytics. Must establish clear metrics (KPI/ROI).
- Data Management, Governance, and Reporting/BI: Create and manage a stable data environment with a focus on trusted shared enterprise data, self-service against that data, and enchantment with 3rd party data. Treats data with respect and is knowledgeable on data privacy best practices.
- Advanced Analytics and Innovation modeling: Drive Symetra’s innovation through achieving business insights through both hands on and coaching of descriptive analysis, predicative analytics, and machine learning modeling. Understands the business needs and uses good judgement on when to use complex modeling vs simple solutions. Ability to work with Data Scientists, review work, and communicate results to business leaders
- Delivery Team management development: Lead and manage technical teams; both direct reports and dotted line reports. Give clear responsibilities and encourage teamwork. Build team skills and talent.
- Community Development: Active member of the Data and Analytics Community. Developing best practices, running workshops, and upskill all community members

Compensation
Salary Range: $140,700 – $234,500 plus eligibility for annual bonus program
- 7+ years’ experience in data analytics.
- 4-year college degree. Advanced technical proficiently in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or similar field.
- 3+ years in the insurance or financial industry
- 2+ years management experience
- Is a self-starter and continuously embodies a learn more/do more attitude.
- Strong planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
