Tala is looking for an experienced and engaging Project Manager who exemplifies what it means to be a servant-leader, a trusted advisor, and a confident mentor to Agile teams. We are a global team with diverse backgrounds who are singularly focused on using technology, data, and a customer-centric approach to meet the financial needs of the 3+ billion people of the emerging global middle class. You will use your technical knowledge and experience managing BI and InfoSec initiatives to advance our mission. You are an expert in Agile practices (Scrum and Kanban) and are passionate about unlocking the creative potential of the collective team and clearing blockers for your teams.
The Project Manager will report to the Sr. Director of Program and will be responsible for supporting the delivery of initiatives for our BI team as well as our Information Security Practice. Successful candidates will have deep expertise in cross-functional planning and communication to ensure team alignment and support a culture of transparency and continuous learning.
What you’ll do
- Manage timeline of deliverables for our newly formed InfoSec Program. This includes the management of risk treatment plans, major and minor non-conformities, program metrics, and annual audits.
- Support the InfoSec Program by providing clarity and prioritization for cross-functional team members, facilitating discussions internally or externally with Tala’s InfoSec provider to construct solutions that make sense for Tala’s InfoSec objectives and maturity.
- Support the delivery of initiatives for the BI team using Agile practices, which includes ScrumMaster duties, assisting with roadmaps, timelines, and review meetings for broad consumption.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement through the establishment of consistent retros, post-mortems, team health metrics, and applicable InfoSec continuous improvement deliverables.
- Participate in quarterly planning as well as continuous reporting on currently planned work and risk mitigation.
- Provide input into resource planning and allocation in coordination with direct manager and department lead.
- Be the team champion to ensure team alignment, advocate transparency and be a protector of the project.
- Work to improve the performance and sprint predictability of squads based on sprint metrics, and use those agile metrics to sanity check roadmap commitments as needed.
- Work with program leads of cross-squad initiatives to ensure roadmap alignment to identify and plan for dependencies across all assigned projects and reduce foreseeable collisions of conflicting priorities
- Provide Project Management leadership to ensure required ISMS activities are held, and prioritized deliverables are completed between audits.
- Facilitate coordination and review with InfoSec vendor on proposed plans and guidance on options to maintain InfoSec compliance

What you need
- 5 years of Project Management experience with proven expertise in Agile methodologies, concepts, practices, and standards.
- 5+ years of experience leveraging software development and team collaboration tools like JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet, etc.
- Experience managing software and data programs and projects for distributed teams across multiple locations and countries.
- Experience in managing other technical areas, such as BI, Data Engineering, and IT, is preferred
- Checked ego, a humble, empathetic, collaborative, service-oriented attitude of “customer first.”
- Must have strong communication skills – the role will be responsible for intra-team and inter-team communication, as well as status reporting and risk event updates, so candidates must have strong written and verbal English skills.
- Practical experience working at a start-up pace with heavy virtual communications
- Flexibility to respond to changing requirements and juggle multiple responsibilities
- Must be comfortable working both as part of a team and independently – includes the ability to set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. This role requires high EQ, comfort in taking ownership, and the ability to understand when escalation is needed
- Proven ability to coach and mentor others who are learning project management and Agile practices in a replicable, scalable way
