A role with Target Data Science & Engineering means the chance to help develop and manage state of the art predictive algorithms that use data at scale to automate and optimize decisions at scale. Whether you join our Statistics, Optimization or Machine Learning teams, you’ll be challenged to harness Target’s impressive data breadth to build the algorithms that power solutions our partners in Marketing, Supply Chain Optimization, Network Security and Personalization rely on.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will gain new knowledge from research and apply it to design and development. You will develop deep understanding of tie-ins with other systems and platforms within the supported domains. You’ll identify opportunities to adopt innovative technologies. And then you’ll share all of your gained knowledge with other team members through interactive sessions. You will work with Product Owners and Lead Data Engineers to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and managing the list of technical requirements based on new known defects and issues. You’ll provide continuous support for design, development and application availability. In addition, you will own all technical aspects of software development for assigned application. You’ll write code and unit tests, work on API specs, automation and testing. Utilize the data structure and algorithms to make the system more efficient. Support ongoing refactoring of code, utilize visualization and other techniques to fast track concepts and deliver continuous improvement. Analyze, monitor and optimize for performance, and produce, maintain high quality technical documentation.

About you:
- Four-year degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or area of study related to data sciences and data mining, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in developing software applications including: analysis, design, coding, testing, deploying and supporting of applications
- Understand application/software development and design in an Agile environment
- Collaborative and able to engage in interactive discussions with the rest of the team
- Understanding of Data structures and Designing of Algorithms
- Understanding of basic mathematical concepts and ability to grasp complex mathematics
- Knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Java, Python, C/C++)
- Experience with Hadoop and/or Spark preferred
- Experience working on projects facilitating true CI/CD (Jenkins, Drone, etc.) preferred
- Exposure to DevOps tools and culture (i.e. Kubernetes, Docker, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Git, etc.) preferred
- Awareness of new and emerging Big Data technologies preferred
This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that’s not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.
Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $87,600 to $157,700.
