Description:
Optum is modernizing a legacy payment integrity application and moving it to a cloud based, big data architecture. Optum also acquired a company (Equian) that has a competing product that they plan on integrating into the new system. The legacy application is an Oracle based solution that leveraged ODI for integration and ETL. The new system will be written in Python on the cloud and use a workflow integration tool from Apache called Airflow. The engineer will be part of a 8 person team that will be building an adapter to integrate the Equian systems into the legacy Optum solution.
The group is on a devops journey and the engineer should have experience in CI/CD (tool agnostic) along with experience with software automation efforts in workflow processes, build/deploy and integration processes. There is a big effort to automate various functions and tasks in this effort and the right candidate should be able to articulate how they’ve automated functions on a similar project.
The Data Engineers will work intensively in Oracle PL/SQL. Prior ETL experience is preferred. That said, I am looking for engineering and dev-ops minded people with such experience. By that I mean folks who are used to working with Git repositories and CI/CD pipelines and automating things through code. I need folks who know how to work smarter not harder. They will be working on a legacy stack but I don’t want legacy mindset. We will be migrating this to the cloud (likely Azure) so any cloud experience would be preferred.

- Possess deep, not cursory, understanding of SQL, PL/SQL, and ETL processes. We do screen with probing questions about these topics and we will know right away if the person is a “tool user” versus in the weeds and understands nuanced approaches and can speak intelligently about using one approach versus the other and why and how it impacts the database, etc.
- Have significant practical experience managing SQL, PL/SQL, and ETL processes with modern source management systems (Git in particular). We will again ask questions in this area and it will be readily apparent if the candidate does not know their way around Git and how code is effectively managed in such systems.
- Can speak to situations in which they have demonstrated proactive stance to reducing manual work through automation
- Are ok with joining a 24×7 support rotation schedule.
