What To Expect
Tesla is looking for a data engineer to help build the data infrastructure responsible for running the formation process within Tesla Cell Manufacturing. In this role, you will develop the applications and data pipelines which manage cells through the formation process, collect and store data from millions of cells, and calculate metrics from the raw data to be used for determining cell quality/performance. In particular, you would be responsible for building out data pipelines which support equipment and process health monitoring as well as support the development of services which determine cell quality through the process. The formation process is a high-data volume environment and in this role, you will
be part of a team building the systems required to collect and analyze data in real time to deliver cell metrics that ensure quality and performance limits are measured and enforced for cells leaving the factory.
What You’ll Do
- Develop critical formation data applications and real-time quality model services
- Build and maintain systems capable of supporting high-volume manufacturing data in a robust and efficient way
- Deploy data pipelines to process raw formation signals into meaningful quality metrics to support defect detection and tracking cell and process performance
- Work closely with the equipment, firmware, and process development teams to facilitate data driven decision making through tools which make data accessible and analyses reproducible
- Contribute to software testing and continuous deployment processes
What You’ll Bring
- B.S. degree or higher with 2+ years of data analysis or relevant experience in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, statistics, or equivalent quantitative discipline. Senior roles available for more experienced candidates
- Strong knowledge of SQL and the scientific Python stack (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, pandas, matplotlib, Jupyter)
- Demonstrated experience with building and deploying data pipelines (e.g. Kafka, Airflow), REST APIs (e.g. FastAPI), and databases (e.g. data modeling)
- Experience with Git or other source control software
- Strong communication and organizational skills to translate manufacturing questions into data/software requirements
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g. Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes) preferred
- Experience with electrochemistry or high-volume manufacturing preferred

Expected Compensation
$80,000 – $258,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
