I. Job Overview
Job Description Summary:
The Division of Information Technology (it.gwu.edu) is the chief provider of technology infrastructure, services and applications at GW. The Division partners with stakeholders across GW to equip students, staff and faculty with the technology know-how and tools necessary to achieve academic excellence.
Reporting to the Manager for IT Service Management, the IT Business Analyst serves as a liaison between GW’s technology services and the GW community of technology users by proactively ensuring that information about available services is always accurate, relevant, complete, and user-friendly. This position works to ensure an end-user focus in every aspect of documentation and always remains mindful of the varying familiarity levels of users with technology services. This position ensures effective internal communication to the GW IT staff.
Along those lines, this position will be responsible for the following duties:
- Work to gather and document user needs and business requirements and assist in the execution of the tasks related to improving end-user knowledge of various IT systems, especially classroom technology, cybersecurity, and identity management.
- Model, design, and implement business processes to ensure quality, usability, and accessibility of IT websites, technical documentation, and signage.
- Identify best practices in technical documentation and meeting end-user information needs and implement recommendations to improve current practices.
- In conjunction with the current status update system and IT support centers, proactively provides information about technology services directly to the GW community.
- Serves as final editor for GW IT’s Knowledge-base contributors who develop online content to help users address common IT issues.
- Assist in assessing new technologies or changes to existing technologies and providing end-user information about those new technologies or changes.
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC and may travel occasionally. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
- Two plus years of experience working in the IT field, including direct experience with instructional technology or higher education.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, testers, end users, and developers to develop, refine, and produce end-user documentation and communications.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex, multi-step technical instructions and communicate them to all levels of users.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent writing skills and previous experience writing technical documentation or instructions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to clearly communicate project strategies.
- Proven ability to lead and work effectively horizontally and vertically.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Strong computer, software, and AV equipment skills to include use of Drupal to edit online content, use of google documents and folders, use of projection or web conferencing, use of classroom technology.
Typical Hiring Range $58,740.35 – $90,870.87 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
