The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Data Engineer to work collaboratively with the Division of Orthodontics. We are seeking an outstanding engineer who will be expected to develop independent and sustainable computer programs to digitizing the orthodontic clinic. Candidates with PhD or experiences in image artificial intelligence and data analytics are preferable. We are looking for someone focused on innovative developer in clinical and translational data processing to advance orthodontics in the 21st century.
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
We are seeking an outstanding engineer who will help to digitalize orthodontic workflow, including
- apply industry level knowledge and techniques such as artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the workflow
- develop in-house graphical user interface (GUI) apps to visualize and analyze the patient distribution and transfer for residency training
- set up and maintain 3D printing system
- develop dental image processing and analysis
- create computer-aid design (CAD) for customized clinical needs
- work with faculty and residents for computer and digital data troubleshooting
- develop in-house desktop programs for the clinical inventory of orthodontic supplies
- supervise work study students.
The work schedule is daily beginning 8:00 am and ending 5:00 pm. It is expected that at least 40 hours per week will be accomplished.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
The body must be able to reach, bend, stoop and reach in order to perform most lab procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary.
Required: Bachelor’s degree required; 4 years’ experience working with 3D printer, artificial intelligence, and/or computer-aid design and software development in a clinical setting.
Desired: Master’s degree; 5-8 years’ experience.
By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date. Proof of vaccination will be required at time of hire.

All exemptions are subject to Ohio State’s approval and subject to change, including revocation, due to legal and regulatory requirements.
The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $79,000 to $105,000.
