A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Scientist who specialises in Recommender Systems to join Asia’s market leading pregnancy and parenting platform, theAsianparent.

We need a talented individual to help Asia’s parents easily discover articles, discussions, media, and products that are relevant to their current needs and interests. An integrated scalable recommender system is key to making that happen.
We’re looking for someone who’s highly motivated, data driven and has a passion for problem solving as well as the ability to challenge the status quo.
As our Recommender Systems Data Scientist, you’ll be working with multiple types of content distributed across multiple data platforms in 6 different languages.
The ideal candidate has exceptional logic, a great eye for detail, pride in their work, and will be excited by the prospect of owning, designing, and creating a large-scale recommender system from the ground up.
Some things that you’ll be doing:
Develop a deep understanding of our data infrastructure
Manage the delivery of a large-scale, cross-functional, robust, recommender system using a third party platform like AWS Personalize.
Scope our platforms and provide a scalable design for a recommender system
Hands on development and deployment of the recommender system (other data scientists and developers will be at hand to aid you in this work)
Conduct an unbiased assessment of the performance of the recommender system
Work closely with Data, Product, and Technology teams to identify new opportunities and ensure successful relevance
Develop a deep understanding of our data infrastructure
Be a technical leader on use, adoption and implementation of personalization and recommendation algorithms.
Clearly present data insights and analysis to the wider team
Keep up to date with industry best practices for recommender systems
Work with all of the core departments across theAsianparent on driving relevance
Constantly challenge and recommend ways to further improve how we work.
We’re looking for someone who has:
Undergraduate or PhD degree in: ML, Computer Science, Physics, NLP, Mathematics, or a science field with strong data/ML component.
2-3+ years leading recommender systems development at scale
Excellent knowledge of Recommender Systems, NLP, Deep Learning, Learn-to-Rank, Regression, Classification, Clustering, and linear algebra.
Excellent knowledge of databases, SQL, python (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, scipy, Matplotlib)
Experience with AWS Personalize and Sagemaker is a plus
Good data manipulation skills including cleaning and managing data.
Good programming practices, ability to write readable, fast code.
Intellectual curiosity and desire to learn new things, techniques and technologies.
Strong analytical, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
Passionate about data, analysis and insights
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain analysis and technical information clearly
Ability to work fast yet accurately
An openness and willingness to try new things
Experience of setting a good example to their team, with clear leadership skills
