Job Location: Charlottesville, VA

The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a Data Analyst. Data Analysts support efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained. They assist in business and system re-engineering and architecture development. Data Analysts serve as organizational consultants on matters relating to databases and provide expertise across grounds. The Data Analyst duties will support clinical research, provide medical device management, manage medical device inventory, and oversee technology control systems. The position will work closely with Clinical Research Coordinators and data team staff. This position will also provide oversight and monitoring of study-related devices and inventory.

The CDT is directed by Boris Kovatchev, PhD, a world-renowned researcher in the field of diabetes, algorithm development, and data science. Dr. Kovatchev is a regular lecturer at universities and conferences throughout the U.S. and Europe. With substantial NIH funding, the Center led and successfully completed the three largest randomized artificial pancreas(AP) clinical trials in the world to date, including a pivotal trial aiming for regulatory clearance of a new artificial pancreas system (that included the algorithm program developed at the Center), published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Ensure high-quality data is collected for analysis and support confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the data.
  • Identify, document, and correct errors in data sets and help determine the best course of action to correct and prevent errors going forward.
  • Train and troubleshoot users (both clinical research participants and CDT staff) on research medical and data collection devices, apps, software, etc., based on processes and protocols.
  • Support hardware (sensors, smartphones, insulin pumps, insulin pens) and software applications used in research and clinical trials.
  • Code or transcribe data into forms or databases as needed.
  • Perform basic analysis of information in support of research, project support, and business operations.
  • Assist in the design, programming, testing, and maintenance of data entry forms.
  • Monitor the use of forms throughout the life cycle of the study or project.
  • Monitor and oversee inventory of study devices, including insulin pumps, glucose monitors, various meters, cell phones, computers, tablets, etc.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience: Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Preference will be given to those with experience with ETL processes, clinical research, and diabetes or diabetes research.
  • Experience with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, VBA, Java, etc.), MS O365 environment, AWS, database systems, SQL, and NoSQL are highly desired.
  • Experience with inventory management is preferred.

Required skills:

  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Physical demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Work will require being on-site in a clinical research setting and requires interaction with clinical research participants. Clinical research admissions may require night and weekend work.

The anticipated hiring range is commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, exempt-level, benefited position.
