Location/Division Specific Information
Business Intelligence Delivery and Operations team is part of corporate IT function under Enterprise Technology Organization. Data Solutions and Business Intelligence Team is responsible for development of data service, data lake and analytics services for internal customers of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
How will you make an impact?
In this role as a Sr Power BI Engineer, reporting into the BI Delivery organization, you will be responsible for Reporting and Data analytics for BI Delivery Organization working with business leaders and team members to architect and develop business applications and automations across a variety of infrastructure (both on-prem and cloud). You will be responsible for creating the technology that moves and translates data used to inform our most critical strategic and real-time decisions. Candidate must be able to work effectively in an agile team to design, develop, and maintain data structures for the Data warehouse.
What will you do?
- Create Power BI dashboards interfacing with multiple financial applications and file systems, including data models, reports, interactive visualizations
- Interpret business needs of stakeholders / Board of Directors and develop analytical solutions
- Work with department leaders to establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and methods of dashboard that present relevant and actionable data.
- Document and test work products and conduct data quality checks on a regular basis
- Develop in-depth understanding of data environment and leverage knowledge to build robust scalable solutions
- Work in partnership with team and business stakeholders to build and share knowledge, ensuring consistent delivery of information
- Act as a Microsoft Power BI, visualization, and dash-boarding subject matter expert
- Through BI software development activities and collective understanding of the enterprise-wide business needs, promote the use of self-service products.
- Define and document best practices for dashboards and self-service reporting tools.
- Perform unit and integration test, participate in report validation and QA of reporting and data analytics.
- Dedicated to creating quality dashboards/reports and applications and accountable for doing whatever is necessary towards that end.
How will you get here?
- Working ERP system and data knowledge a plus (E1 and SAP experience preferred)
- Strong leadership, mentorship, communication and presentation skills
- Process improvement experience desired
- Proficiency with MS Access and SQL databases. Fluent in EDW data management structures and external data skills.
- Experience in Biotech or Technical Support industries.
- Strong communication skills and be able to focus on details on data analysis and mapping
- Must be able to look beyond the detailed requirements to understand what the business is trying to do / don’t get lost in the details
- Must be able to develop and maintain documentation to our standards / provide feedback on standards where they can be improved
- Familiar with AWS, Data Science is preferred.
- Master’s degree in computer science engineering from an accredited university (desired)
- 4-year degree with major in computer science engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university (preferred) will substitute for minimum 5 years’ professional IT experience.
Tool & Technology Skills
- Overall 10+ years of reporting and data analytics experience in a Data Warehouse Environment.
- 5+ years of extensive experience in building dashboards using Microsoft Power BI
- 4+ years if extensive experience in DAX
- Strong Experience in developing Power BI Dashboards, very strong in M Query and DAX calculations.
- Knowledge of utilizing JIRA for Project related activities.
- Excellent working knowledge of analysis and reporting tools
- Experience in Power BI Dashboard development and scripting, SQL Server, Excel, Access and AWS Redshift type databases.
