As a systems engineer, you will be required to work in a fast-paced team of engineers to build, maintain, and automate Thrivent’s data platforms. A willingness to learn new technology and automate manual processes is necessary to excel in this position. You will also interact and engage with several different teams within Thrivent as well as several vendors to ensure the platforms we support are stable and optimized. As a part of the Data Office, you will play a key role in pushing Thrivent’s strategies forward.
- Collaborate with operations, development, and business teams to identify cloud solutions.
- Provide support for data platform related issues.
- Coach and mentor teams on data platform and cloud technologies and methodologies
- Lead the design of critical path/technology initiatives and provide thought leadership.
- Develop enterprise-wide integrated solutions based on business requirements. Contribute to innovative solutions that align to strategic objectives for the customer
- Solve complex, enterprise level problems and issues
- Review code Pull Requests and provide meaningful feedback
- Assist Architecture team with designing, developing, documenting, and analyzing overall architecture of systems, including hardware and software. Work in collaboration with Architecture team to provide technical expertise to peers across the company.
- Research and recommend technology to improve the current systems, including meeting with outside vendors to learn about industry trends.

Required:
- Familiar with the Databricks/Snowflake platforms
- Knowledge of support of Airflow
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science
- 5+ years of experience in Technology related field including prior lead experience

Strong analytical skills, problem solving and ability to build consensus across teams
- Experience working in an agile environment to establish strong technical standards, practices and frameworks
- Able to succeed within an open, collaborative and flexible environment.
- Experience with Cloud Platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure
- Excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skills
- Ability to give and receive constructive criticism.
- Comfortable with one or more scripting languages (bash/powershell/python/etc)
- A passion for technology, learning, and finding the best solution.
- Very strong communication skills, adaptable to technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred: (Nice to have)
- Advanced degree or equivalent in MIS, Computer Science or related field
- Advanced certifications in supported solutions e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, AWS
- An understanding of how AWS IAM security works via instance profiles and policies is greatly preferred
- Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Bamboo
- Understanding of the AWS cloud platform
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), specifically Hashicorp Terraform
- Experience supporting high traffic applications, and services that span multiple datacenters and cloud environments
