The Data Science Group is seeking a Research Manager to lead our research team, help them push the accuracy of our NLP systems, and continue developing innovative techniques in NLP, including usage of e2e neural systems, domain fine-tuning, unsupervised modelling, and continuous learning techniques. You will hit the ground running managing current projects as well as planning for strategic long-term projects and team building.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a growing team of engineers and researchers focused on speech recognition and adjacent fields.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and motivation to your research team.
- Stay abreast with academia and latest improvements in state-of-the-art.
- Drive architecture and technical direction for your team, in NLP and adjacent fields.
- Leverage technical skills, knowledge of the business, and academic field to identify new innovative approaches and new product features for Uniphore.
- Collaborate with other teams at Uniphore working towards a shared vision of democratizing spoken language understanding.
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience leading research teams to deliver product-ready NLP systems
- Masters or PhD in computer science, computational linguistics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field
- Experience managing a team of researchers spanning both applied and pure research.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, and grow researchers along their career paths while executing on the company’s objectives.
- Prior hands-on experience developing NLP systems and/or adjacent technologies in ASR and Spoken Language Understanding.
- Exposure to new approaches to multilingual NLP systems, privacy-preserving federated learning, sparse data modelling, semi-supervised and unsupervised modelling.
- Broad mastery of natural language processing techniques such as neural networks (RNN / DNN / LSTM), language models, attention, and transformers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working with remote teams
