Position Highlights
The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is seeking a candidate for the Senior Programmer/Data Analyst position. The Senior Programmer/Data Analyst develops methods and is responsible for accurate data collection, processing, modeling and analysis. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Associate Director, Administration and team to implement high-quality, data-driven reports. They will ensure data accuracy and consistent reporting by designing and creating optimal processes and procedures for data reporting and analysis. The successful candidate will apply their exhaustive knowledge of data collection and analysis to problem solve and design and create analytical reports. These reports are utilized for decision making.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for management and leadership of systems programming and data related efforts and activities for the Cancer Center, including supervising the senior data analyst.
  • Lead cross-functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to optimize data reporting and analysis.
  • Develop automated/scheduled processes to utilize the University’s central information warehouse and business intelligence using SQL and other methods. Improve reporting and processes over time.
  • Defines, designs and builds dimensional database schemas.
  • Reviews object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.
  • Define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes.
  • Adapt ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements.
  • Collect, analyze, manipulate data to discover meaning and insight.
  • Performs analysis using various techniques, e.g. statistical analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, etc. to identify patterns in data.
  • Build, develop and maintain data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics support that support key business decisions.
  • Design and build technical processes to address issues.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze key operations and metrics. Reports should be clear, convincing, informative, engaging, and tailored to the audience.
  • Develops reports to recommend strategies and plans.
  • Ensure accuracy of data and deliverables of reporting employees with comprehensive policies and processes.
  • Conducts data sheering to rid the system of old, unused or duplicate data.
  • Manage and optimize processes for data intake, validation, mining and engineering as well as modeling, visualization and communication deliverables.
  • Examine, interpret and report results of analytical initiatives to leadership.
  • Makes critical observations and provides data interpretation.
  • Oversee the data/report requests process: tracking requests submitted, prioritization, etc.
  • Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Anticipate future reports related to ongoing projects.
  • Communicate and present results of reports to stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to create, troubleshoot, and enhance the Cancer Center’s data loadings.
  • Knowledge of key IT business systems, reporting and analytics, general ledger management, and data warehousing.
  • Strong working knowledge of reporting tools such as Oracle Business Intelligence, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in research and data analysis, drawing actionable insights from raw data and information.
  • Skilled in statistical and econometric modeling, performing quantitative analysis, and technological data mining and analysis techniques.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, Information Systems, Statistics, Applied Math, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience working in report creation, modeling, and trend forecasting.
  • Experience using SQL as well as experience performing administrative tasks on servers such as SQL.
  • Experience working with SQL server reporting services, Salesforce, analysis services, Tableau, or any other data visualization tools.
  • Experience creating visually and verbally engaging reports for leadership, staff, and stakeholders.
