Health Data Compass has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) IT Professional – Jr BI Developer position.
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the BI Developer is to analyze and deliver datasets in response to faculty healthcare-data requests. The BI Developer will contribute to Compass’s mission of serving the Anschutz research community within a HIPAA compliant environment. The BI Developer will support and mentor the data delivery team, as well as support health care investigators, faculty, and staff, internal and external to Compass. A successful BI Developer candidate will own and drive requests and projects to completion, communicate expectations, be a creative problem solver, and write documentation clearly and concisely.
Responsibilities
- Delivers high quality data sets or data marts. The BI Developer executes assigned data requests within scope, quality, and targeted timeline for delivery. As necessary, the BI Developer will identify and communicate data anomalies.
- Strives for positive customer experiences as determined by project completion surveys and customer interviews. The BI Developer demonstrates strong subject matter expertise, reliability, and responsiveness by communicating internally and externally within one business day.
- Conducts accurate and timely documentation of project effort and status using Compass case management system.
- Schedules and coordinates meetings with customers, faculty or study teams as necessary to discuss data requests.
- Provides feedback, documentation, and process improvement to data delivery process optimization and organizational policy refinement.
- Maintains a high level of professionalism, including proactive communication to customers and collaboration within CU and Compass teams.
- Facilitate, process, document, and/or escalate user requirements for data and infrastructure in the Compass Google Cloud Platform, following organizational policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in health informatics, data analytics or health science related field (e.g., healthcare administration, public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) and Epic certification or proficiency in Clarity or Caboodle (current or lapsed).
- At least one (1) year of professional level experience in healthcare medical billing coding and reporting.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire or must obtain Epic Clarity or Caboodle proficiency within six months of start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in health informatics, data analytics or health science related field (e.g., healthcare administration, public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.).
- At least three (3) years of professional level experience in a healthcare environment working with enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, data set curation, to include at least 3-5 years’ experience coding in Python and SQL.
- Advanced BI Developer skills.
- Manage terminology mapping documentation, data profiling and data mapping documentation.
- Experience writing reports using healthcare data against Epic data warehouses (Clarity or Caboodle).
- Experience in standardized clinical code systems (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm) and common data models (OMOP).
- Experience with data manipulation languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python).
Competencies
- Experience working with academic research studies
- Excellent inter-personal skills, including written and verbal communication, customer service skills
- SQL for querying data (Google Big Query or similar)
- Extensive experience with clinical data
- Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail and accuracy

Salary and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $55,000 to $85,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
