Position Title
Student Cybersecurity Data Analyst

Position Summary
Performs basic (entry-level) through complex (journey-level) cybersecurity analysis work. Work involves investigating methods for protecting cybersecurity assets and delivering cybersecurity incident detection, incident response, threat assessment, cyber intelligence, software security, and vulnerability assessment services. Works under close supervision, with medium latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
This is a student position open to current UIW students.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in monitoring and analyzing cybersecurity alerts from Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools, network devices, log files, and information systems to provide the context of the activity occurring in monitored systems.
  • Assist, research, and analyzes cybersecurity events detected in SIEM systems.
  • Observes the recommendations for continuous improvement strategies.
  • Assists in the analysis and resolution of SIEM alerts, events, and incidents.
  • Observes meetings, presentations, and training to educate other students on cybersecurity analysis, risks, and mitigation efforts.
  • Maintain the Cloud-based Cyber Security for Data Analytics Framework.
  • Perform analysis over big data using Elasticsearch and Python Pandas for pattern recognition.
  • Build rich visualizations using Elastic Vega, Kibana Visualizations and Dashboards, and Python visualization libraries (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, Bokeh, and Networkx)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems and technology; of operational support of networks, operating systems, Internet technologies, databases, and security infrastructure; of cybersecurity and information security controls, practices, procedures, and regulations; and incident response program practices and procedures.

  • Skills in conducting research, diagramming business process flows, and the use of a computer and applicable software.

  • Skills in developing rich visualizations and dashboards development.

  • Skills in performing data analysis using Python Pandas, Kibana, and Elasticsearch.

  • Skills in assisting in coordinating and leading meetings to resolve issues, share information, and further project goals

  • Skills in effectively conveying information and encouraging an exchange of ideas (Communication)

  • Skills in identifying, defining, and solving problems (Problem Solving)

  • Ability to resolve security issues in diverse and decentralized environments: to plan, develop, monitor, and maintain cybersecurity and information technology security processes and controls
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems to maintain confidentiality and protect privacy

  • Ability to learn new concepts and technical content and apply them appropriately to work assignments

  • Ability to work with others to achieve a common goal (Teamwork)

Required Education
  • Currently enrolled as a UIW Junior or Senior with previous
    coursework in cybersecurity, information technology security,
    computer engineering, computer information systems, computer
    science, management information systems, data science, data
    analytics, or related fields.

Required Work Experience
  • Professional or academic experience in cybersecurity, privacy analysis, information security, or process management work.
  • Experience with cloud technologies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Participation in industry-related organizations and activities
  • Experience with common or open-source security tools

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Work Hours
Students may work up to 20 hours per week.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
