Description
The Associate Business Analyst at UPMC Enterprises supports the investments team in due diligence and opportunity evaluation as well as portfolio management and governance. This role will support the evaluation, selection, structuring and execution of early-stage and growth equity Digital Health investments. The role will also include responsibilities for assisting with the management and oversight of portfolio companies, including but not limited to, capital raises and investment exits.
Responsibilities:
- Drives continued business intelligence to understand market forces, size of opportunity, addressable market, profit drivers, differentiators needed to create winning solutions
- Supports investment thesis development and opportunity evaluation through primary and secondary market research, including competitive analysis, etc.
- Builds out a deep understanding of our capabilities, resources, assets and our gaps, to identify and advance investment opportunities that drive financial and operational value to UPMC
- Performs initial high-level primary and secondary market research to drive problem-scoping, problem definition, problem prioritization within a defined focus area, uses said information to analyze and screen new opportunities and to inform the business plan of existing investments
- Maps competitive landscape of products and players that address prioritized problems; identifies opportunities for science, technology, design, business model innovation; investment and partnerships
- Provides support as needed to UPMC Enterprises’ executive management in their role of collaborating with portfolio company executive teams, including but not limited to, monitoring company performance, performing private company valuations, constructing forecasts, and drafting Board materials.
- Creates, maintains, and continuously improves ability to report on performance metrics for the investment portfolio
- Performs due diligence on potential investments, focused on understanding all aspects of the operations and business model, finance and accounting and reducing same into a dynamic financial model
- Identify key risks and value drivers and perform appropriate risk and sensitivity analysis
- Writes investment proposals and develop financial models including cap tables to be used with executive management
- Works with users, business, market, and technical staff to coordinate cross-functional due diligence of new investment opportunities, identifying key risks and opportunities
- Summarize key transaction terms, diligence findings and recommendations in reports to management
- Assists in development of Enterprises and portfolio company strategy
- Supports learning and development of other team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with a strong academic record
- Open to undergraduate/graduate students with graduation dates of December 2022 or April/May 2023
- Familiarity with business issues, or the ability to quickly learn
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strong technical abilities
- A high level of professional maturity (i.e., maintaining confidentiality to privileged information), strong interpersonal skills, and a solid work ethic.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
