What you’ll be doing…
This candidate will perform analytics, create predictive models, and/or apply machine learning techniques for high-visibility projects, as a member of a collaborative and open team that prides themselves on innovative solutions. The data scientist will explore information from multiple sources in order to gain maximum insight and provide a competitive advantage. The “data science” tasks may include statistical analyses, knowledge discovery, data mining, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing data studies of new and diverse data sources.
- Conducting statistical modeling and experimental design.
- Discovering “stories” told by the data and presents them to peers, software developers, business analysts and business managers.
- Creating and validating predictive models and advanced algorithms; training AI and machine learning.

In this hybrid role, you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll need to have
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Four or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with tools such as R, Rstudio, Python scipy and numpy, Jupyter notebook.
- Experience with SQL (Structured Query Language) and other programming languages (R, C++, Python) for statistical computing, graphics, and data mining.
- Knowledge of statistics, machine learning, algorithms, predictive modeling, and advanced mathematics.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Master’s Degree in Physics (or other science), Engineering, or Mathematics (or statistics).
- Knowledge of programming and pattern recognition.
- Experience with RDBMS, columnar, and NoSQL database technologies.
- Experience with Big Data and related tools such as Hadoop or Spark.
- Knowledge of deep learning techniques.
- Ability to demonstrate Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to relate them to Verizon business processes and operations.
- Ability to demonstrate strong exploratory analysis skills and ability to think and research creatively.
- Collaborate with business unit, IT, and data scientists across the enterprise to support descriptive and predictive analytics process.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to bridge the gap between data science and business management.

For part-timers, your coverage will vary as you may be eligible for some of these benefits depending on your individual circumstances.
If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the compensation range for this position is between $95,000 and $176,000 based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
