Role: Senior Business Analyst, Finance Analytics


The Elevator Pitch:

As VMware continues its growth and transformation, the company seeks to further establish its analytics foundation and capabilities. The Senior Business Analyst of Finance Analytics drives product development projects ensuring the company operates on ground-breaking insights for the Finance organisation and benefits cross functional users across the company in Sales, Marketing, Channel, Products and the leadership team, to scale the company. This position will be reporting into the Finance Analytics team within the Enterprise Data and Analytics organisation.

As a Senior Business Analyst within the Enterprise Finance Analytics team, you will have the responsibility of guiding a cross functional team who will provide quality Business analytics, Insights and reporting on critical KPIs to the Finance organisation.

You will engage closely with VMware Leaders across Finance, Analytics, IT, Data engineering, Master data management and C-Suite executives. Additionally, you will have the responsibility of a Data Engineer where you get to collaborate with a global team of data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders on critical analytics projects, thus ensuring deliverables are of the highest quality standards, meeting the ever-changing requirements of the business stakeholders.


What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

You will be the go-to person for the Finance stakeholders for developing analytics & insights products (i.e. applications and data). You’ll work with a high-performing team of analysts to drive design to delivery of the analytics and data capabilities. As a Data expert, you’ll ensure that our stakeholders have access to certified curated data sets for their reporting needs.


Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You will establish credibility, develop, and maintain effective relationships with the Finance stakeholders and other teams
  • You will be operationally excellent in the day-to-day running of the business
  • You will be tasked with solving a real-life business problem that requires processing/analysing large volumes of data and handling variety of data sources.
  • You will ensure that the work is organized as products with clear outcomes, deliverables and timelines
  • You will proactively investigate, report, and where possible, address data issues
  • You will organize/delegate project tasks to product team members and be responsible for timely delivery


What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Drive to understand business context and need and translate into an analytics solution
  • Develop end to end Finance Data roadmap that meets the ever changing and growing need of our Finance stakeholders from early-stage concepts to scale. With ever an eye to reducing manual work and solution / product silos, to repeatable and scalable solutions.
  • Work with your stakeholders to define and drive product strategy, identifying key outcomes and success metrics.
  • Strong technical knowledge in SQL and Tableau to support the Finance business by developing dashboards, reports, visualizations, advanced analytics solutions to answer business questions.
  • You will provide strategic business guidance and expertise through data visualization, data mining and story-telling supported with data best practice
  • Consultative mindset and be the thought leader / SME. Actively driving and leading stakeholder and team discussions to drive to strategic solutions.
  • Deeply understand, document, analyse, and synthesize user needs into product priorities, roadmap plans, and detailed specifications
  • Successfully collaborate with cross functional team of IT, cross EDA, etc. to ship new, impactful platform capabilities that accelerate our time to value
  • Lead the vision and roadmap for your area of the analytics platform, driving buy-in and support from your Product Lead stakeholders, developers, architects, etc.
  • You will plan for and drive continuous improvement in a robust and agile manner. You will be a strong storyteller to communicate effectively with Executives & CDTO Teams.
  • Be the expert on end-to-end data flow for the Finance Domain.
  • Able to prototype solutions and provide technical requirements to engineering / EDA teams.
  • Work with data stewards/data governance teams


What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

You will be part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA) team at VMware. EDA is headed by Wendy Batchelder. Under EDA, our team would come under the Analytics & Insights (A&I) practice headed by Jan Foo, Senior Director. The A&I team is responsible across VMware in driving actionable insights through path breaking analytics products. The hiring manager for this role is Kiran George, Senior Manager, EDA Finance Analytics.
