Ready to build? So are we! We support VMware’s new Tanzu portfolio of products, which help customers build, run and manage their most important applications.
This is your chance to join the team that will help us learn how customers are using our products based on product telemetry. We are supporting a relatively new set of products that do not yet have comprehensive datasets to support our analytical work. You will be helping us build new datasets that are critical to about ability to understand how customers use our products and inform our future work. You will work in a collaborative team side-by-side with data analysts to help executives, product teams, and customer success teams understand customer adoption and usage so that we can make smarter business decisions.
Success in the role: What are the performance goals over the first six months you will work towards completing?
We are hiring two data engineers to support a new team in India. This team will collaborate closely with team in the US and Europe but will have independent projects and goals.
After your initial onboarding, we expect you will build a solid data engineering foundation for this new team by setting up development practices and quality standards to ensure that this team is productive. We will know that this team is successful when you have built high-quality, validated and documented datasets that are not only used by your data analyst colleagues, but by partners on other teams. We expect that you’ll be able to work collaboratively with a strong bias for action.
What type of work will you be doing?
You will:
- Collaborate with management and product teams to understand what data sets are needed they need to understand customers and product usage.
- Design and document the schema for our datasets, ensuring they can be used effectively by our team and partner teams.
- Build & test data pipelines using Python and SQL within our existing data warehouse infrastructure.
- Incorporate data from multiple sources including product telemetry in our data lake, sales data, support case data, and other data sources.
- Monitor and manage our data pipelines to ensure that the data is fresh and accurate.
- Build sample reports using tools such as Mode or Tableau. While full reports may be built by our analysts, your ability to demonstrate how to use the dataset is essential.
- Collaborate with teams across VMware, including teams in both India and the United States.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
This position is part of the Tanzu Portfolio Insights team and is led by Alain Roy, who has 20 years of experience and has been at VMware for six years, where he has been part of multiple products, including Tanzu Mission Control.
The Portfolio Insights team includes data analysis, data engineering, and product management roles. You will play an active part in developing and prioritizing the work you do with opportunities to grow your skill set and exposure to product leadership, data analytics, and data engineering.
This team is part of a larger Tanzu Common Core Engineering organization, which provides the foundation that brings together the Tanzu portfolio of products. Products and customer satisfaction depend on the insights that this team will provide. These insights will inform the business decisions that we use to evolve our products.
