Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to be part of our Cyber Security Machine Learning team. The team is continually advancing state-of-the-art methods to solve a wide range of real-world financial problems using the company’s vast and unique datasets. The successful candidate will apply sophisticated machine learning methods to a wide variety of complex tasks including time series, reinforcement learning and recommendation systems. The candidate must excel in working in a highly collaborative environment together with the business, technologists and control partners to deploy solutions into production. The candidate must also have a strong passion for machine learning and invest independent time towards learning, researching and experimenting with new innovations in the field. The candidate must have solid expertise in Deep Learning with hands-on implementation experience and possess strong analytical thinking, a deep desire to learn and be highly motivated.

The role will be an individual contributor role working closely with Machine Learning and AI technology leader and engineering team in providing architecture and design guidance.
Responsibilities
- Research and explore new machine learning methods through independent study, attending industry-leading conferences, experimentation and participating in our knowledge sharing community
- Develop state-of-the art machine learning models to solve real-world problems
- Collaborate with multiple partner teams such as Business, Technology, Product Management, Legal, Compliance, Strategy and Business Management to deploy solutions into production
- Lead your own project, from feasibility assessment and research through to model development
- Working closely with application development teams to review/assess solution architecture and provide guidance on target and/or interim state cloud solutions
- Support application team onboarding to Cloud specifically leveraging big data technologies and ML platforms
- Support assessment of new product/services across machine learning and big data technology paradigm
- Play SME role for application development teams to help Cloud, Big Data, Data Lake and Machine Learning application modernization
In this role, you will:
- Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
- Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
- Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
- Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
Required Qualifications, US:
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 5+ years of development experience with languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or R
- 2+ years of configuration experience with Cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or MS Azure
- 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: data management, data science, Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML)
- 2+ years of experience in application & data architecture and solution design
Desired Qualifications:
- A Masters degree or higher in computer science or finance
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- 5+ years of information security experience including experience in one or more of the following security disciplines: information security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, host/network forensics, cyber-crime investigation, penetration testing, business continuity, or cyber threat intelligence
- 5+ years of experience in information security risk management or information security technology
- 5+ years of Incident Management System experience
- Experience articulating issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management
- Knowledge and understanding of threat analysis and assessment of potential and current information security risk/threats
- Experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) products
- Certifications in one or more of the following: Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), Offensive Security Wireless Professional (OSWP), Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE), Offensive Security Exploitation Expert (OSEE), or Offensive Security Web Expert (OSWE)
- Ability to execute in a fast paced, high demand, environment while balancing multiple priorities
- Experience working in a large enterprise environment
- Knowledge and understanding of banking or financial services industry
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, with senior executive-level leaders
