About The Opportunity
Wind River Systems is seeking an experienced high-performing machine learning software engineer for a team developing a hybrid cloud-based data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence platform. The core purpose of the role is wrangling data and building, evolving, and deploying analytical models to improve our products, the customer experience, and ultimately the business.
Who You Will Work With
This is a new senior role that will interact closely with other cloud platform developers, user interface developers, data engineers, data scientists, architects, and stakeholders across various groups in Engineering. We commonly use swarming to help the team learn more quickly and get things done while enjoying it. You will also collaborate cross-functionally with product line managers, sales, professional services, technologists, and customer-facing teams. You will report to a regional manager within the Studio AI directorate in Engineering.
What You’ll Do / Your Responsibilities
- Contribute to the research, development, prototyping, and deployment of data models that:
- address emerging device analytics needs
- enhance developer productivity and product quality
- Iteratively extract, wrangle, and analyze data from development tools (like GitLab, Jenkins, Jira, and many more)
- Develop effective data visualizations and interactive features for these AI/ML capabilities
- Bring direct and tangible observations of real-world operational problems observed in defense, intelligence community, and private industry to conceive and communicate new product ideas
- Collaborate with other researchers, development team members, external partners, and customers to successfully complete program projects and meet development objectives and timelines
- Contribute to the design and evolution of a high-quality, secure data architecture and infrastructure, upon which future data science can flourish
- Mentor and helped to up-skill other analytical team members on advanced data engineering and data science techniques
- Keep up with emerging research, practice, and communities in machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies
About You
Qualifications – MUST HAVE:
- BE in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer / Electrical / Software / Systems / Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Math / Physics, or another STEM field
- Advanced degrees (e.g. ME/MTech/MS, MBA, or Ph.D.) are appreciated but not required
- 4-10+ years of data science experience: prototyping, developing, validating, scaling, and deploying machine learning models into products for real customers
- 10-30+ years working in the software development arena (career gaps are ok; life happens!)
- Proficiency in developing a variety of statistical and AI/ML models: clustering, classification, regression, neural nets, NLP, anomaly detection, time series (e.g., ARIMA, SARIMA, ARMA), etc.
- Blend of technical expertise and soft skills, including effective and flexible communication skills in English
Core Competencies and Demonstrated Success – You should have most or all of these:
- Experience leading & contributing to data science projects and defending modeling approaches
- Strong, demonstrable skills in SQL and Python for data extraction and manipulation
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling (parametric/non-parametric algorithms), feature engineering, and advanced understanding of key deep learning models (RNN, ANN, GAN, CNN, Transformer, etc.), Reinforcement Learning, etc.
- Experience with using open-source AI/ML/data technologies (e.g., Postgres -or any other relational database, SQL experience-, Hadoop, Spark (Scala), PySpark, Flink), Linux, and at least one major cloud service provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Exceptional team player with a track record of successful collaborations and working well in diverse, distributed agile environments
- Good understanding of software product development processes and software team communication/coordination approaches
- Blend of technical expertise and soft skills; effective and flexible technical writing and presentation skills
- Strong foundational knowledge in statistics and mathematics
- Self-managed, fast learner with the desire and ability to master new technologies
Note: Although this is primarily a development role, we do not use coding tests, quizzes, or take-home assignments in our interviews. We are more interested in how you think about analyzing and solving a problem, how you learn, how you lead, and how our team can learn from you! However, if you do have a public GitHub or other repository with examples of your past work, please share the link (optional).
Pluses – It will be great if you also have knowledge or experience with one or more of these:
- Advanced analytics features using statistical techniques and machine learning, e.g., Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) or Application Performance Monitoring (APM)
- Deep experience with Kubernetes / Docker; CKA, CKAD, or CKScertification is a plus
- Deep experience with Git, GitHub and GitHub Flow, GitLab, and social media APIs
- Familiarity with Continuous Integration tools (e.g. Jenkins, Travis CI, etc.)
- Understanding of information security practices (cryptography, privilege separation, etc.)
- Real-time analytics experience: receiving and analyzing ‘hot path’ streaming big data from distributed applications (not just processing data at rest or in ‘cold path’ batches)
- Software Engineering experience with the full development lifecycle and processes, agile and scrum project management tools (e.g., Jira); Scrum certifications (CSM, PSM, CSPO) are a plus
- Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and RTOS development tools
- History of open-source contributions, teaching, publications, and/or volunteering on professional committees
