We are recruiting a Statistical Science Associate Director or Statistical Science Director to join our growing Early Respiratory & Immunology statistics team to support the Early Phase Respiratory & Immunology/Neurosciences/Vaccines & Infections portfolio. Our main focus is providing statistical project lead support for all of Early phase of clinical development for AZ’s Respiratory & Immunology, Neuroscience and Vaccines & Infections division together with specific targeted support for the development and innovation of Early Phase Biopharmaceutical trials.
In this role, you will belong to the Early Biometrics & Statistical Innovation (EB&SI) department, where our data-centric focus helps us work efficiently and creatively to bring the right medicines to the right patients. Our teams use their expertise in statistics and programming to address drug development objectives and reduce uncertainty in product development, driving better business decisions with quantitative reasoning. As part of the Data Science & AI team, you’ll use technology at the forefront of science in a creative environment, with the scope to develop new statistical ideas and apply them in your work.
Main duties and responsibilities
In this role you’ll lead the delivery and oversight on multiple studies/indications within multiple drug projects as a Global Project Statistician. You will work closely with the full team providing targeted statistical support to the Therapy Areas. You’ll participate in adapting and developing statistical methodology and participate in innovation workstreams facilitating innovation, improvement and development of how we do Early Phase Clinical trials.
With your unique skills you’ll contribute to the basis for innovative drug development. Working cross-functionally and within an international environment you’ll lead the statistical thinking and contribute to the delivery of early development studies, development plans, regulatory strategy, health technology assessment and commercial evaluation. As a subject matter expert and with excellent project management skills you’ll guide statistical staff and/or CRO partners, to ensure delivery to standards, quality and time. Additionally, you’ll mentor and support the education of early statistical talent.
Requirements
Essential
- The minimum required education is a M.Sc./PhD degree in a relevant discipline such as statistics, biostatistics, or mathematical statistics
- Experience in the relevant therapeutic areas
- Strong knowledge of programming in R and/or SAS
- Understanding of the technical and regulatory requirements related to the role
- Excellent communication skills and desire to build strong collaborative relationships
- Desire to apply your scientific competence on practical problems, for the benefit of patients
Desirable
- Knowledge / research experience in the development of statistical methodology related to vaccines & infections, analysis and interpretation of safety data, observational studies, meta-analysis, Bayesian statistics, non-linear and mixed effect models.
