Join Takeda as an Associate Director, Machine Learning where you will be part of a computational team focused on developing and utilizing computational and systems biology approaches to support Takeda drug discovery and development projects. The goal is to apply Machine Learning/Deep Learning expertise to develop novel deep learning approaches to explore, explain and predict diverse drug candidate immunogenicity, toxicity, metabolism and bio-distribution in support of preclinical and translational sciences.

You will work closely with colleagues from preclinical and translational science organization, including Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics, Drug Safety Research & Evaluation, Genetics and Systems Biology, Quantitative Solutions, and Clinical Biomarker Innovation & Development.

As part of the Genetics and Systems Biology you will report to the Global Head, Genetics and Systems Biology and work with a variety of therapeuadic areas.


How you will contribute:

  • Evaluate, develop and implement advanced machine learning and deep learning methods. Architect new systems to embody these novel algorithms.
  • Create visualizations, interpret machine learning models and associated high dimensional data and explain results to cross-functional teams.
  • Plan and coordinate machine learning and computer engineering activities, including pipeline building to support human genetics and computational biology, internally and in partnership with external CROs and academic partners, including complex projects requiring collaboration with multiple members of the team and organizations.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive scientific reports to a full range of internal and external audiences.
  • Work collaboratively with data scientists and data engineering groups to enhance our computational infrastructure, user interface, query and visualization capabilities.
  • Writes study reports and presents data effectively in all settings and with participants of all levels of the organization.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 7 years’ experience , or MS with 13 years’ experience, or BS with 15 years’ experience
  • Deep expertise and solid experience in machine learning and deep learning methods.
  • Software engineering expertise (UNIX/Linux; C/C++, Java, Python/Perl, R, …) and experience with prototyping and architecting software solutions, pipeline building, parallel computing, GPUs, relational and novel database architectures, cloud computing and distributed computing. Familiarity with quantum computing.
  • Experience with protein structural bioinformatics, omics data analyses and data integration.
  • Experience using public domain human omics databases and experience developing and implementing bioinformatic pipelines for data analysis of RNASeq, sc/snRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, DNASeq, and proteomics data.
  • Theoretical knowledge of bioinformatics, computational biology and human genetics; keeps current with emerging trends in bioinformatics and computational biology.
  • Familiarity with Natural Language Processing
  • Familiarity with popular public domain data sources and programmatic interfaces.
  • Experience in designing and conducting machine learning activities to meet program objectives; able to provide input on timelines and resource needs as indicated.
  • Able to evaluate/develop computational and machine learning methods based on project needs.
  • Independent, self-starting and supportive of team-based research and able to work effectively in a matrix organization.
