About the role:
The AIG Travel Rapid Learning Lab® delivers leading user experiences and optimal conversions for our own and our travel partners’ integrated and non-integrated travel insurance sales.
The lab sits in the heart of the AIG Travel business and leverages cutting-edge quantitative methods to dramatically improve our interactions with our customers and prospective customers. There is a strong focus on improving Digital Direct Marketing functions across all customer touchpoints, and the customer experience in the digital space.
As a Data Scientist within the lab, you will work with all of AIG Travel’s business units, both domestic and international. The work will span the entire sales funnel, including media channel optimization, prospect identification and targeting, testing messaging and creative effectiveness, real-time digital bidding optimization, website and call center testing and optimization, and customer experience improvement within fulfillment. The role has a direct impact on the success of our testing programs and the measurable results achieved.
What you will do:
- Leverage advanced analytics to generate actionable insights, optimize conversions and improve marketing efficiency; relevant techniques will include supervised and unsupervised machine learning, frequentist and Bayesian statistical methods, Design of Experiments for multiple factors, cohort studies and time-series analyses
- Extract, clean, merge and manipulate data from multiple sources that may be in structured, semi-structured or unstructured formats
- Manage analytical projects through the lifecycle of data exploration and visualization, model building, validation and performance evaluation
- Drive end-to-end insights by leading business problem definitions, formulating hypotheses, and delivering solutions to support business decisions and outcomes
- Communicate insights from quantitative analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Design and assess pilots for new products from a data-driven perspective
- Build solutions that are scalable and create great business impact
- Push the envelope in the digital marketing space to drive towards a customized customer experience across the sales funnel
- Work with business sponsors, AIG’s Travel Partners and IT teams to translate their needs into analytic solutions
- Engage with current and prospective business partners to communicate optimization program features, benefits and results
What you bring to the table:
- A solid understanding of statistical hypothesis testing, Design of Experiments and A/B tests
- Experience in statistical and machine learning techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, survival analysis, GLM, clustering, feature engineering, dimensionality reduction, model validation
- Strong knowledge of writing queries in SQL as well as programming in Python and/or R
- An understanding of the needs and trade-offs in balancing predictive power, interpretability, and ease of implementation
- Proven ability to effectively manage your time while multitasking between time-sensitive projects and competing, dynamic priorities, while also maintaining strong and productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, listening and teamwork skills, and effective presentation skills; this is essential since you will have a lot of exposure to different internal groups (data, IT, actuarial, medical, underwriting, legal etc.) as well as AIG’s Travel Partners, such as airlines and online travel agencies
- Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., Matplotlib/Seaborn/Plotly, ggplot or D3)
- Proficiency in creating and presenting effective and visually appealing PowerPoint presentations
- A master’s degree (or, preferably, a PhD) in a quantitative discipline
- 2+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in Digital Direct Marketing is a plus, as is familiarity with Snowflake and AWS SageMaker
