Bayer is looking for a talented computational biologist with expertise in genome data analysis for an internship in Summer 2023. The candidate will join a team that builds genomic resources for a range of crops and species and performs bioinformatics analysis to support discovery projects across Bayer Crop Science R&D. The intern will use his/her computational biology and data science skillset to explore and mine gene expression data in crops and other species of interest. The ideal candidate will have experience in analysis of next-gen sequencing analysis and/or gene expression data in a linux computing environment.
Genome Data Science Intern
Your Tasks And Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role, Genome Data Science Intern, are to:
- Provide technical contributions for a specific project already scoped;
- The intern is expected to have basic data science and bioinformatics skill set;
- With supervision, will perform any of statistical analysis, computer programming, predictive modeling and/or experimental design;
- Network with the broader Data Science & Analytics organization to accomplish project goals and expand industry contacts;
- With guidance from project manager: Contribute to the development of code, bioinformatic analyses pipelines, computational tools, and/or databases for mining and visualizing large genomic datasets;
- Create and present a final presentation to the broader team and collaborators that summarizes findings and recommendations.

Required qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in a relevant Master’s or PhD program;
- Educational preparation or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or other related quantitative discipline;
- Demonstrates intermediate proficiency in computational skills and level of experience building statistical models using R, Python or other statistical and/or mathematical programming packages;
- Demonstrates basic understanding of software development best practices (Version Control, Code Documentation & Review, Cloud Based Sequence Analysis, Database Management);
- Communication skills include presentations and delivery of complex quantitative analyses in a clear, concise, and actionable manner to extended team and small groups of key stakeholders.
Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately $32.00 to $52.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
