Position Overview

This role will focus on the current and future development of our data warehouse and related processes and reporting needs. As a member of the technology team, the scope of this role is firmwide, with high visibility and engagement across departments. We intend to continue to leverage our data for investment decisions, operational excellence, and broader business management. This role will be instrumental in building our data flows at the core of these processes.

On the reporting side, the team drives analysis and data visualization to support key initiatives and drivers of the business. We look to leverage technology to our advantage for research, investment decisions and operational capacities including data sourcing & management, process automation and reporting/dashboards. The data engineer will continue the core development of the code repositories, working to both support and advance these efforts.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and delivering the platform’s future direction. Working in concert with stakeholders across the Firm, there will be a high degree of collaboration front-to-back throughout the organization. Acting as a trusted partner and problem-solver, this individual will also have an opportunity to provide innovative solutions for key objectives for various aspects of the business.

The data engineer will combine technical proficiency with an understanding or keen interest in markets to take ownership of existing data programs and look to further enhance and evolve our approach. Casdin is in a growth phase, and there will be a significant opportunity for the role to grow through the build-out of additional internal products and programs. We are looking for someone with a high degree of intellectual curiosity who enjoys thinking about and discussing architectural and design approaches, engineering best practices, and risk analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Expand our data warehouse, managing existing processes and feeds, and incorporating new data sources.
  • Build processes in SQL & Python related to data flows into and out of a SQL server data warehouse (data sources include third-party vendors, APIs, admins, etc)
  • Manage internal mapping tables for critical data such as underlier roll-ups, custom tagging, ticker mapping across vendors, etc.
  • Ensure data quality by continuing data check development and correcting errors highlighted in daily data check reports.
  • Continue core development of business processes and reporting requirements across the organization, including ETL.
  • Maintain and expand the ETL and data management repo.
  • Handle ad-hoc data requests across the Firm to support internal needs. Respond by providing excel, PDFs, slides or dashboards.
  • Handle month and quarter-end reporting for marketing, finance, and data science teams.
  • Maintain and enhance web-based dashboards that serve the organization.
  • Consultatively engage with stakeholders across the organization to identify business requirements and drive automated workflows to advance outcomes

Requirements/Qualifications

  • 3+ years of SQL experience, with the DDL for new tables, indices, views, stored procedures.
  • Python experience with the ability to build data flow processes with SQL server or other relational databases
  • Development in a Git environment adhering to best practices around code quality
  • Experience working with market data or exposure to investing and portfolio management. Exposure to security master and data warehouse concepts a plus
  • Ability to work in an agile-type development environment, with strong communication skills for cross-functional requirements gathering and stakeholder management. This individual will need to work across multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Proactive with a mind toward efficiency in the process and systems that we build and a keen interest in the effectiveness of the solutions we create
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to produce error-free work and quickly find issues within a dataset
  • Passion for and understanding of equity capital markets

The minimum and maximum base annual salary for this role is $150,000 to $200,000. Actual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, past performance, education, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary compensation, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, and successful candidates are eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus.
