Job Detail:

Position Summary:

The BI and Data Warehouse Analyst is responsible for developing specific data structures and providing an analysis of data from internal and external sources to assist in business making decisions. The incumbent will manage the delivery of data and information relating to the business intelligence of Casella, create new data warehouses and further develop current ones to ensure that existing reporting solutions continue to function properly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs on-going design, performance enhancements, research and troubleshooting on current systems and new data warehouse tools to ensure continuous process improvement.
  • Develops standard and ad hoc queries, and reports to extract information from data sources to product dashboards, metrics, or insights and identify trends or anomalies that ensure clients have all necessary materials to make informed business decisions.
  • Collaborates with technical applications and development teams to design business intelligence solutions to facilitate data gathering, storage and retrieval.
  • Performs analysis, development, and evaluation of data mining in a data warehouse environment, including data design, database architecture, metadata, and repository creation.
  • Oversees the mapping of data sources, data movement, and interfaces and reviews and validates existing data and new data being loaded into the data warehouse to ensure data quality.
  • Provides support and technical expertise to the development and implementation of solutions using basic dimensional modeling techniques and makes suggestions for improvements when necessary.
  • Designs and implements ETL procedures and data architecture to ensure proper functioning of analytics lab, and company reporting environments.
  • Provides technical consulting to users of the various data warehouses and advises users on conflicts and inappropriate data usage.
  • Maintains a strong knowledge of software tools, languages, scripts, and shells that effectively support the data warehouse environment in different operating system environments.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.


Career Path Definitions & Distinctions


Level 1:
Has 0-2 years of progressively complex experience using business intelligence reporting and data discovery tools. Demonstrates an ability to handle common database procedures such as upgrades, back up, recovery, migration, etc. Exhibits an ability to design and create user-interactive reports.
Level 2: 2-4 years of progressively complex experience in programming and software development. Demonstrates a working knowledge of relational databases, analytical and trouble shooting skills. Exhibits strong knowledge of programming language (C#, Python, Spark, etc.). Exhibits a thorough understanding of the architecture, data structures and fundamental design principles of the data warehouse.

Senior:
5+ years of progressively complex experience in programming and software development. Exhibits exceptional knowledge of programming language (C#, Python, Spark, etc.) and any necessary platforms and systems. Demonstrates a strong ability to anticipate how to successfully enable need users to consume and comprehend complex data sets. Provides mentoring, training, and support to others on the team. Demonstrates an expert level ability in monitoring, tuning, and completing database analysis.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Analytics or other related degree and 1-2 years’ experience working with data warehouse solutions. Although not required, an advanced degree or certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related degree, and/or Data Warehouse and Power BI Certifications are preferred. 3-5 years of experience and an extensive background in data warehouse solutions and data mining applications are also preferred.
A solid understanding of source data, data modeling, and data repository, and a strong knowledge of programming language (C#, Python, Spark) are required. Excellent listening, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with an ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are necessary. Experience with Azure systems, Data Lakes and Data Warehouse is needed.
