Job Summary

Responsible for transforming large, complex data into consumable business databases and applications for self-service analytics and reporting. Create system architecture, design and specification using in-depth engineering skills and knowledge to solve difficult development problems and achieve engineering goals. Works closely with a variety of team members to clearly define data product requirements and technical roadmaps. Determine and source appropriate data for a given analysis. Work with data modelers/analysts to understand the business problems they are trying to solve then create or augment data assets to feed their analysis. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

• Oversee the delivery of technical visualisation for a squad of visualisation engineers
• Work as a key member within a squad, understand and contribute to the agile delivery process and contribute to your team’s output, of high quality, from concept to production

• Drive forward the production of reusable code and capability where appropriate with a view to maximising effort and reducing development costs by applying principles of Agile delivery
• Provide accurate estimates and domain knowledge, highlight and own risks and challenge assumptions
• Mentoring and coaching other members of the team, being a role model in terms of working practices
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve and rationalise processes and tools across all squads within the DTA team, working in close collaboration with other team members and subject matter experts
• Support Visualisation Product Owners to define and maintain product roadmaps while managing business stakeholders
• Actively document, record and share knowledge of our systems and data products
• Continuously implement, promote and improve our ways of working, defining best practice, frameworks and processes
• Support and deputise for the Data Engineering Manager for Visualisation when required

Required Experience and Skills

• Excellent and demonstrable SQL skills
• Proven experience in development of reports, documents, visulisations and dashboards as per requirements
• Solid and demonstrable technical background in visualisation tools, such as Tableau, with a focus and understanding of end to end best practice in creating maintaining and providing self-serve data and dashboarding capability

• Proven experience working with large, complex datasets in a cloud environment, preferably Google Cloud Platform
• Proven experience of execution of code peer reviews for other developers
• Extensive data analysis and interpretation background to critically evaluate data gathered from various sources, helping key partners understand and maximise the potential of Sky’s data
• Proven experience in creating wireframes and running workshops with the business to agree and clarify requirements
• Demonstrates exceptional communication and social skills and has a demonstrable ability to influence technical decisions in a fast paced commercial environment
• Self-motivator with energy and drive for continuous improvement and a focus on delivering results
• Proven ability to influence technical decisions in a fast-moving commercial environment
