Director, Data Platform Engineering
The Data & Intelligent Services group is looking for a top-tier technology professional to join us as Director of Data Platform Engineering. This role has responsibility for managing multiple engineering teams and the development of software and data systems that power innovative Data Observability and FinOps platform capabilities. This includes multi-cloud cost data acquisition, analytical insights, metadata management, and predictive modeling. In addition, this individual will lead engineering efforts to design, build, and rollout a data quality platform with powerful machine learning and self-service features, enabling users to configure, deploy, and respond to defects in any batch or stream data source at enterprise scale.
What you’ll do:

You will help us build the next generation of highly scalable, distributed data platform capabilities to power the EG Travel Platform

Design and develop large-scale, integrated platform components delivering new Data Observability and Data Management services across the organization

Contribute to creation of a NorthStar technical architecture and the definition of quarterly milestones and initiatives to get from current to future state

Collaborate with product managers, architects, and program partners to scope, prioritize, and solution data platform and software systems that deliver customer-focused outcomes and measurable business value

Define, measure, and establish accountability for world-class operational processes (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, metrics, cost, programming for resiliency, security, and scalability)

Engage team members with learning & development activities and implementing practices for hiring and retaining top talent

Evaluate short and long-term requirements for department objectives and identify staffing, budget, and skills needed to achieve successful outcomes

Help team members identity and build key relationships and networks inside and outside the organization

Identify and resolve issues and conflicts that impair the team’s ability to meet strategic and technical goals

Develop a deep knowledge of the EG data platform ecosystem to influence direction and investment in enterprise data platform capabilities
Who you are:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other technical related field; or equivalent related professional experience
-
14+ years of experience as a Software or Data Engineer and 5+ years in a people management role building high performance engineering teams, preferably in the data domain

Experience in coaching, mentoring and performance management of other managers or team of 10+ engineers

Prior hands-on coding & development experience with commonly used programming languages and frameworks for developing ETL pipeline, APIs & web applications

Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to think strategically about technology decisions and manage relationships with stakeholders senior leadership

Strong knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
