Position Details:

The mission of the Customer Insight team is to provide all our customers and sellers with comprehensive reporting, analytics, and actionable insights – descriptive, inferential and prescriptive, that deepen our customer relationships and increase market share. Our goal is to provide an actionable set of information that gives a customer a deeper understanding of their business or operations. We will differentiate in the market by servicing our customers better through using technology to scale our expertise.

This role is based out of our Chicago or Lake Forest offices. You will be reporting to the Sr. Manager of Data Science.

You Will:

You will work with a team of high performing product managers, data scientists, data engineers and architects to build extremely targeted products that help customers solve and answer specific problems. This role provides the candidate with an up-close view of how customers use and interact with what they build.

We are looking for a Principal Data Scientist to push the boundaries in the development of models and micro-services that solve specific customer problems at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop code (Python, SQL) for analyzing and building statistical models to solve specific business problems like anomaly detection, behavioral clustering, classification and demand forecasting
  • Build, test and deploy customer-facing analytical and ML endpoints & APIs that are a mixture of business logic, model and data
  • Contribute to the design and development of Insight generation methods using Order History, Product Utilization, Customer Industry Classification and Search History data
  • Collaborate with researchers, software developers, and business leaders to define product requirements and provide analytical support
  • Stay on top of the latest developments in the AI/ML space, by applying and customizing these to the MRO domain
  • Be a top-notch experimenter and demonstrator of best-in-class ML work
  • Possess a high degree of comfort with MLOps and the full stack ML toolkit

You are:

  • Masters/PhD in a field such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics or equivalent experience.
  • Experience interfacing with product and technology partners in delivering low latency, highly robust ML services to solve customer facing problems at scale
  • 5+ years of experience of development and delivery with SQL, Python
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical solutions to engineering teams and business audiences
  • Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to convey rigorous technical concepts and considerations to non-experts

Bonus:

  • Experience working with large quantities (billions of rows) of data
  • Experience with unstructured data like text and vectorizing them
  • Experience in supply chain & operations optimization
