Summary
As a Data Scientist, you will serve as a subject matter expert performing studies that span business processes and operations at the program level.Location of position:This is a VIRTUAL position within GSA’s Office of Human Resources Management

Duties
As a Data Scientist, you will perform the following duties: Work with teams to develop data products and definitions. Use appropriate analytic and statistical software to programmatically prepare data for analysis and clean imperfect data. Assist with constructing data pipelines using complex tools and techniques to handle data at scale. Assess data sources to determine the type of data available and how data imports can be made into other systems to reduce or eliminate manual reporting requirements.
Use R, Python, SQL, or other languages for various applications, e.g., spreadsheets, presentation graphics, project management, operations research, linear programming, statistical quality control, econometric and time series analysis and mathematical,engineering and statistical applications. Derive meaning from big data (i.e. datasets that may be large, disparate, unstructured, and/or complex). Provides assistance to programmers/analysts in development, testing, and implementation of new or modified information systems or programs.
Assist with translating complex concepts, findings, and limitations into concise, plain language. Closely tie findings and conclusions into the agency mission, original problem statement and team objectives. Assist with written reports and oral presentations on the progress and/or results of projects/studies. Collaborate with peer analysts and data scientists across GSA to share data analyses and best practices.

Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 2 investigation level).

Basic Requirements:
- Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
- Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience isexperience working with large amounts of structured and unstructured data; conducting analyses using software and/or programming languages to explore data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and inform decisions; and presenting findings clearly and concisely utilizing appropriate communication and visualization tools.
