You will work as a member of the Machine Learning Lab where expert data scientists, software engineers, and lifelong learners will feel at home and thrive. This team produces impactful results while gaining and creating knowledge along the way. Our purpose is to build persistent data-science models with a production focus for H&R Block.

Python Developer: Works as a team member to build meaningful solutions from multiple data sources. Will assist with writing, testing, and optimizing code; debugging programs and integration with applications.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve various production level deployments.
  • Support the front-end developers through integration with Python applications.
  • Partner with a team of Data Scientists to deploy and iterate models via CI/CD.
  • Be a champion of Pythonic principals.
  • Optimize and refactor code written by less experienced developers/contributors.
  • Leverage and apply mastery of the Python standard library and built-in functions to build scalable solutions.
  • Identify and anticipate requirements to support object-oriented development across a suite of modeling efforts.
  • Expand and maintain a robust unit-testing framework for ML / AI solutions.

What you’ll bring to the team…

  • Degree in Computer Science or other related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of object-oriented development design principles.
  • A passion for writing clean, efficient production code.
  • A deep knowledge of Python’s built-in functionality and libraries.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining Python packages.
  • Practiced at partnering with data scientists to put ML models in production.
  • Ability to optimize and refactor code written by less experienced developers/contributors.
  • Experience with team development using git.


It would be even better if you had…

  • Expertise in data architectures and data modeling, APIs, and leveraging big data through distributed computing.
  • Familiarity with Azure Databricks.
  • Experience developing machine learning algorithms in Python.
  • Understanding of Python based data science tool sets (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, etc.).
  • Worked within an Agile delivery framework.
  • Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker).

What you’ll bring to the team…

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

Work Experience:

  • 3 years Minimum related work experience
  • Fluent in Java, Python, and a C based language
  • In-depth knowledge of Hadoop and bigdata technologies such as MapReduce, Hive, and Pig, NoSQL technologies, SQL technologies, and data warehousing solutions
  • Able to help partners articulate business requirements
  • Intermediate (practical application) Relationship building and conflict management skills
  • Oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
