The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer – Wellness solves complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.


Responsibilities

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer – Wellness describes the tools, technologies, applications and practices used to collect, integrate, analyze, and present an organization’s raw data in order to create insightful and actionable business information. Begins to influence department’s strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

The Scope of work includes, but not limited to: data transformation, business intelligence capability development, contribute to strategy and design to best articulate “story / measures of success”. The Wellness portfolio provides considerable diversity in work due to the number of business segments [Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid] in addition to multiple product offerings [Wellness program, Coaching program].

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in data analysis, OR Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced experience working with big and complex data sets within large organizations.
  • Experience analyzing data to solve a wide variety of business problems and create data visualizations that drive strategic direction.
  • Proficiency in understanding Healthcare related data.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication to senior and executive leadership.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern business intelligence concepts and best practices.
  • Intermediate to advanced BI ETL and data modeling skills (T-SQL, PL-SQL, SPARK-SQL and ability to learn other scripting languages such as Qlik script).
  • Understanding of ETL and BI data integration concepts with the ability to write and help manage complex scripts to stage and load data into BI tools.
  • Experienced in developing and deploying automated BI reports/dashboards using a data visualization tool such as Qlik Sense or Power BI.
  • Strong data analysis and research skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and test reporting solutions from back to front end.
  • Strong business consulting skills – Ability to understand business needs and translate to BI solutions.
  • Understands how to integrate information and inputs from multiple areas (i.e. strategy, contracting and provider relations, clinical, business analysis, finance, risk, and sales) to create outcomes that meet the needs of the customer.
  • Able to bridge the gap between IT and business while being a key stakeholder on IT investments/projects.

  • WAH requirements
    : Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office (Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role). A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 10×1 (10mbs download x 1mbs upload) is required.
  • Basic understanding of data governance, privacy and compliance.

  • COVID VACCINATION
    : Humana and its subsidiaries require vaccinated associates who work outside of their home to submit proof of vaccination, including COVID-19 boosters. Associates who remain unvaccinated must either undergo weekly negative COVID testing OR wear a mask at all times while in a Humana facility or while working in the field.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Advanced in SQL, SAS, Azure Synapse and other data systems
  • Experience with tools such as PowerBI, Qlik Tableau for creating data visualizations
  • Expertise in data mining, forecasting, simulation, and/or predictive modeling

  • Schedule:
    Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm EST ( Except for west coast folks – 11 am -7 pm EST)

  • Training:
    Typically for 6-9 months after hire for people to get up to speed.

  • Work Location:
    Work At Home Nationwide

  • % Travel:
    minimal, maybe 2 weeks out of the year
