Summary:The Data Engineer / DBA is a pivotal role working with our Snowflake Data Warehouse responsible for both hands-on development of the data warehouse and integrations as well as serving in the role of database administrator for Snowflake and related services. The candidate will play a central critical role for performing core database administration in a Snowflake environment, manage automation to optimize the environment, manage and optimize code deployments, build data integrations from sources to Snowflake and be a point of contact for Snowflake within the organization.

The data engineer will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and performance of the company data warehouse and guarantee the data is stored securely and efficiently.

Reporting to the Principal Data Architect, the data engineer will work closely with other engineers and engage remote site support personnel, and internal and external clients to resolve database issues. Responsibilities:Manage the Snowflake environment, including databases, schemas and other objects. Maintain, enhance and deploy Terraform and similar infrastructure automation scripts and recommend and implement improvements when appropriate. Manage and enhance as necessary the Snowflake GitHub repository, including GitHub Actions. Manage and enhance as necessary the loading infrastructure for source data extraction and loading. Implement/support automation for production deployment, perform production deployments and enforce development and release best practices in a CI/CD environment using CI/CD tools. Administer and monitor source raw data integration tools. Work with other developers to develop and modify data integration ELT processes in SQL or other tools and languages. Monitor and react to data integration errors and alerts. Manage Snowflake roles and privileges and assist troubleshooting of user and role propagation errors. Diagnose and troubleshoot Snowflake database errors. Implement, administer and monitor Snowflake user /query log analysis and alerts and react to alerts. Actively work with Snowflake support for raising support tickets and triaging outages. Should work with heterogeneous user groups from data engineers to data scientists. Coordinate efforts with data engineers to implement data encryption/decryption/masking policies to protect PII/PCI data. User security auditing. Provide technical leadership, foster a team environment, and provides mentorship and feedback to technical resources. Train users as required and answer questions. On-call responsibilities on rotational basis for Snowflake database administration. Should be able to review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project. Other duties and projects as assigned. Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 1-2+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 1 year relevant experience performing Snowflake DBA duties. Experience with version control systems, DevOps, continuous delivery, and continuous integration practices. Experience of managing, owning and delivering high quality projects to objectives and within time scales. Extensive experience with query tuning and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of data encryption techniques and database querying and management tools. Experience writing complex SQL Queries. Proficiency in cluster key design to improve Snowflake queries. Experience working with AWS, Github, SchemaChange, Terraform and Talend Stitch preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
