The Strategic Sourcing Group at Microsoft is seeking a passionate, driven, and intellectually curious Sourcing Manager to drive impact and deliver results in the world of Microsoft Devices. The Strategic Sourcing Group is responsible for all direct materials and supply chain services sourcing for our first party hardware devices. We develop partnerships with our internal hardware and software engineering and development teams and our third-party external suppliers to deliver high-quality products that delight our customers and deliver a fantastic Windows/Cloud/AI experience.
This position will focus on Mechanical & Enclosure component sourcing, and will lead supplier relationships, defining the category and supply base strategy, including the management and negotiation of Product Supply Agreements and related contractual executions, influencing hardware technology roadmap, leading supplier negotiation and selection, driving continual cost optimization and ensuring continuity of supply. An ideal candidate will have high ambition to grow with Microsoft and Strategic Sourcing. You must be a high energy/impact individual and demonstrated ability to succeed in a high demand and ultra-high stress environment. The successful candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity, can lead without authority and be able to work across organizational lines.

It is critical that the person in this role is able to develop productive, collaborative working relationships with a variety of people with differing levels, personal styles, cultural backgrounds and geographical locations.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a market leading sourcing category and supply base strategy in the Enclosure & Mechanical category via full market knowledge, supplier rationalization, predictable and industry leading commodity pricing plan, and total cost of ownership (TCO) cost modeling through transparent supplier relationship management.
  • Secure components and/or services in the assigned category that will provide competitive advantage in both technology and cost for Microsoft.
  • Deliver most aggressive and closest-to-the-pin costing and budget projections, with the ability to standup to the most aggressive opposition and drive alignment with the leadership team
  • Drive change management to continuously improve efficiency, yield and performances via repeatable processes, people growth, and elimination of work duplication.
  • Business owner of the category and component supplier relationships up to executive levels, including the management and negotiation of contractual agreements.
  • Develop supplier capabilities and drive roadmap visibility across Microsoft hardware businesses.
  • Manage the supply base end-to-end from inception to end-of-life to ensure continuity of supply with the right materials driving plan in place.
  • Work with a cross functional team to drive the supplier selection process and component qualification both under engineering and commercial best practices/disciplines.
  • Achieve established commitments on total cost results, supply, quality and compliance adherence, technology roadmap alignment and on-time delivery.
  • Present commodity strategies and associated business awards to Microsoft Executive Management.
  • Serve as key escalation channel responsible for continuity of supply risk.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical & enclosure and / or consumer electronics supply chain
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain management, or business-related field
  • Possess strong engineering, or supply chain expertise
  • Current knowledge of industry trends and ability to foster and leverage professional relationships
  • Fast learning and able to develop a broad understanding of electrical/semiconductor industry, technologies, business, and contractual intricacies
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating and working with cross functional teams to launch new products
  • Strong program management experience in the consumer electronics market
  • Expertise in market analysis to dissect market size, players, customers, growth, technology replacements/forecasts, pricing trends, etc., to formulate sourcing strategies
  • Passionate about opportunities to establish new approach to sourcing
  • Deliver best in class total cost of ownership (TCO), continuity of supply (COS), and business relationship management
  • Expertise in financial statement analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers before RFx is conducted
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, and detailed oriented to support ideology with facts
  • Ability to identify and solve complex cost, contractual, process and operational business challenges
  • Excellent commercial/business acumen and strong negotiation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for executive communication; ability to articulate points of view with executive management
  • Ability to work independently and within a matrixed environment, a self-starter and quick learner of Microsoft systems and processes
  • Ability to travel to Asia or US domestics, with experience working with suppliers on a global scale

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct supply chain/materials & delivery management experience
  • MBA preferred
