About us


Job Purpose

An engineer starting out in their career. Software Engineer 1s will typically have between 0-2 years of professional software development experience. As a Software Engineer, you will be involved in the product development process from ideation to launch, working closely with software engineers, product managers, UI/UX designers, and key stakeholders across the organization to deliver the best digital experiences for our users. You will actively contribute to the success of the team by innovating, participating in technical discussions, and contributing to the development of products that will transform the organization.


Key Accountabilities

  • Displays appropriate problem-solving & critical thinking skills.
  • Understands basic flow of data through their applications.
  • Understands the role of testing, manual and automated, in validating their work.
  • Basic proficiency with version control systems.
  • Asks clarifying questions of more senior engineers as appropriate to complete work.
  • Starting to gain competence in either a front end or back end programming language
  • Works to improve technical skills by seeking team guidance on technical approach before starting tasks.
  • Starts to explore our key technology frameworks used on their team
  • Identifies most efficient way to complete assigned tasks. Escalates when blocked.
  • With their managers help, sets development goals & holds self accountable for progress.
  • Asks questions about motivation for work and works to build an understanding of how the work fits in with the larger systems.
  • Ensures assigned tasks contribute to teams’s core objectives.
  • Discusses technical challenges with other engineers on the team, with the goal of contributing to the engineering roadmap


Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Works effectively with peers and manager.
  • Proactive contributor on the team.
  • Takes coaching well and doesn’t get defensive
  • Participates in team agile ceremonies – helps by providing estimates, and asking questions when their estimates are off
  • When solicited, provides upward feedback or feedback to peers.
  • Contributes positively to team dynamic by supporting team efforts.
  • Puts team priorities above their own.
  • Clearly lays out work in PRs and JIRA tickets for manager/team consumption.
  • Comments code appropriately based on team/org/company standards
  • Applies answer-first principles to all forms of communication.
  • Adds/Updates documentation where appropriate to existing pages on the wiki
  • Works with peers/managers to improve communication skills.
  • Engages in team meetings – an active participant in the process.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically 0 – 4 years of related experience and/or formal training in the duties of the position. Entry level for employees with Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Has sufficient knowledge to independently interpret and follow procedures associated with specific transactions and practices in one broad work process. Actively seeks professional growth. Conducts own work within a defined area of responsibility. Develops knowledge in at least one other process.
  • Provided with approach, procedure, or methods to complete new assignments. Follows established procedures.
  • Maintains effective internal contact within functional area or division, and frequently has external contact at peer levels. Implements project plans, and responsible for achieving work groups projects and annual results.

Salary

$71,000 – $101,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
