Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking Data Scientist/ Principal Data Scientist to join the SDS Division Team. This position is in Roy, UT or Huntsville, AL and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. Final grade level offered will be based on candidate level of experience.
What You’ll Get To Do:
As a data scientist, you will be curious, detail-oriented, and ethically conscious. You seek to ask questions about people, the business, and how we can use data to find solutions. You are a strategic thinker that can translate data to create well-informed people decisions to enable strategic business outcomes. You want to drive change for our people, are candid and collaborative in taking on our most difficult analytics projects as well as the process and culture changes that accompanies them. You will collaborate across the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division to uncover data-driven insights to solve business challenges across the talent and project lifecycle and enable transformational change.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with stakeholders, teammates, and business leaders in the SDS Division to identify challenges and empower organizations with data
- Communicate results to an executive audience to effectively tell the data story
- Develop and automate data and analytical solutions for ongoing organizational needs
- Define, collect, and manipulate data sets to create structured hypotheses, identify patterns, and derive insights to drive decision making
- Create data visualizations using common visualization capabilities (Python libraries, Tableau, Cognos, PowerBI etc)

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Job Qualifications:
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- US Citizen and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance (Interim clearance required to start)
- Data Scientist: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant experience or master’s degree in a related field with 0 year of relevant experience
- Principal Data Scientist: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5 years of relevant experience or master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of years of relevant experience
- Ability to extract and manipulate data from databases (e.g., SQL)
- Ability to use statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python)
- Proficient in data visualization using Tableau or similar visualization tool
- Experience collaborating on projects with multiple teams, managing relationships, and communicating findings, both orally and in graphical/written form, to audiences
- US Citizen and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Experience with people or talent related data analytics
- Experience with program or contract related data analytics
- Experience with data storage and retrieval techniques, ETL, and databases
- Experience with U/X design principles
- Ability to work with the upmost confidentiality when applicable
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a team
- Solid statistical understanding and exposure to more advanced analytics, such as machine learning
- Experience with Workday system
