Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems – Propulsion Division is looking for (STAFF DATA SCIENTIST) to join our team at either the Promontory or Bacchus (Magna) UT, Facilities.
Description & Responsibilities:
This position provides data science and reliability analysis support on Northrop Grumman rocket motor programs including the Space Launch System, both the USAF Sentinel and Minuteman missiles, the US Navy Trident (D5) missile, as well as developing rocket motors such as Hypersonics, Castor and GEM motor programs. This position supports other Propulsion Systems organizations outside of Science and Engineering, (Operations, Business Development, Information Technologies, Quality, etc.) with statistical and reliability analyses.
A Staff Data Scientist provides analysis and support on many programs and varied data types. Opportunities vary widely across many applications of statistics and data science needs as well as using statistical methods to predict reliability measures for rocket and missile programs. There are also opportunities to present findings and predictions to design reviews where rocket and missile designs are reviewed and evaluated by the customer. This position may be located at either the Promontory or Bacchus facilities.
Job Duties:

Design of experiments application to support material development.
-
Analyze and interpret data from various performance tests on rocket motor systems.

Provide support for reliability predictions on solid rocket motors on various programs as needed.

Support data mining and statistical modeling needs for prediction of aging effects on systems.

Prepare and present reliability allocations and predictions at technical interchange and design review meetings.

Provide consulting support for process control measures on ingredients and material properties data.

Make reliability assessments of engineering changes and signoff on those changes.

Teaching university level courses on design of experiments and statistical process control within the company.
Experience Requirements:
-
Candidate must have a minimum of a MS degree in statistics and 12 years of experience in statistics and data science.

Ability to travel: Travel expectation of up to 10%
-
Experience with probability or reliability calculations and topics is a plus.

Teaching statistics classes at a university level is also a plus.

Excellent written and oral communication skills is required.

Self-directed and self-motivated. Strong team player.

Writing, documentation and presentation experience.
Skills

Experience, or interest, in teaching university level statistics courses.

Strong skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel

Technical software knowledge or experience with R & Rstudio, JMP, Statistica, or other statistics software

Ability to learn how to apply statistics and data science to other fields of science

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Competencies for Success:

Education/Requirements:

MS degree in Statistics with 12 years or PhD and 9 years’ Experience
