Job Location: Cheswick, PA

The engineer’s general function is to build, maintain, and improve laboratory and plant-level equipment (including equipment for sample preparation, test, and measurement), and develop new experimental methods, in support of R&D and non-R&D customers. The engineer also own process and product improvement projects that may have visibility beyond R&D.

  • Acquire and consolidate large datasets from multiple sources through data platforms such as SQL, OSIsoft-PI, and Azure Cloud, etc.
  • Manage data and orchestrate data flows in Cloud
  • Conduct on-demand data analysis and modeling
  • Develop and deploy data analytics and reporting tools
  • Write research reports and communicate research findings with domain experts
  • Travel to manufacturing plants for project launch and execution may be required

Requirements

AS, BS, or MS in Engineering, Technology or Scientific Discipline (Physics, Chemistry, Electrical, Mechanical, Material Science, etc.)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to plan, organize and share information in interactions with management, peers, associates, and vendors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve problems
  • Must be able to work autonomously as well as in a team setting
  • Solid coding skills and algorithm development in at least one programming language such as C#, R, Python, PySpark, Scala, etc.
  • Basic experience with relational databases and SQL scripting
  • Solid knowledge in statistics
  • Fundamental knowledge in machine learning modeling
  • Strong aptitude and willingness to continually learn and expand skill sets
  • Dedication to timely and detailed follow-through
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplined team
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills in working with cross-functional teams across all levels
  • Past data analysis experience (at least 6 months) in glass manufacturing environment
  • Desired: Experience with OSIsoft-PI, Microsoft Azure, Spark, glass making and vacuum coating processes, and remote support of software applications and their development

The primary location for this role will be in the laboratory environment at Vitro Glass Technology Center. The incumbent may, on occasion, be required to travel to various manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico to provide support. The role is primarily daylight hours with occasional travel requirements. Overtime may be required in support of projects
