Department Overview
Electric Asset Management is responsible for the electric system engineering and planning, asset strategy, and risk management across transmission, distribution, and substation asset families. This centralized, risk-informed approach allows PG&E to manage electric risk, asset and system health, interconnections, and performance by using consistent standards, work methods, prioritization, and program sponsorship, while leveraging lessons learned from inspections and asset data to inform asset management decisions. The organization is accountable for asset planning and strategy, standards and work methods, and asset data management for Electric.
The Asset Knowledge Management (AKM) team, within Electric Asset Management, is responsible for the management, quality, and access of PG&E’s electric asset data. The team’s objective is to maximize the use and ensure the trustworthiness of PG&E’s critical electric data assets.
Position Summary
The Expert Data Quality Analyst will be responsible for technical implementation of the Asset Data Quality (ADQ) program – a mission critical program launched in 2022 to systematically achieve and maintain the level of data quality required to support Electric Engineering Planning & Strategy’s business objectives, including regulatory compliance, risk management, improved operational efficiency, and advanced analytics. Program objectives include establishing a comprehensive inventory of PG&E’s critical electric asset-related data, capturing and maintaining metadata for all critical data, establishing and applying data quality rules to all critical data, and prioritizing data quality issues for remediation.
The Expert Data Quality Analyst will work at the direction of the ADQ Program Manager and partner with a cross-functional team composed of members from Electric Asset Knowledge Management, Electric Asset Management, Enterprise Data Management, Information Technology to implement the ADQ program. Responsibilities include leading the collection of metadata, development of data quality rules, guidance of data quality platform architecture decisions, conducting cause analysis regarding data quality rule violations, and supporting data quality remediation activities.
The near-term focus of ADQ will be on systematic measurement and improvement of PG&E’s electric Asset Registry and Asset Condition data. The ADQ program will expand its focus will shift to other data types that support Asset Management (e.g., event data, maintenance).
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Job Responsibilities
Partner with lead Program Manager to implement Asset Data Quality (ADQ) programs to systematically inventory PG&E’s critical electric asset data, capture metadata, measure data quality, and drive the execution of high-priority data improvements.
Build strong relationships with business data stewards, asset data system specialists, IT Foundry ontology team, IT data quality team and IT architecture team to facilitate program implementation.
For critical datasets, lead the documentation of metadata in Collibra, integration of data into Foundry, development of data quality rules and guide development of dashboards to monitor data quality
Measure and report KPIs to evaluate ADQ program progress and status for clients and senior leadership
Perform triage and remediation on data quality rule errors to ensure rules are functional.
Continuously monitor data quality rule performance to ensure that rules are functional and triage/remediate data quality rule errors when they arise.
Partner with Business Data Stewards to update, modify or add data quality rules.
Ensure data quality action plans are implemented where data fails to meet established data governance standards.
Advise Program Manager on strategy and roadmap to reflect continuous improvement and expansion into data types beyond Asset Registry and Asset Condition data (e.g., event data)
Technical Skills – MS Excel, Python, Foundry, Collibra, PowerBI, PowerApps, SharePoint Online, SQL etc.
Qualifications
Minimum
BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience
Job-related experience, 6 years
Desired
Experience in regulated electric or gas utility asset management and/or operations
Data management and data quality tool experience
Detail-oriented with ability to focus on managing multiple reports and processes
Even-tempered, manages conflicts in a positive manner, and comfortable interacting with individuals at all levels
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with vendors and business SMEs.
Project management / implementation of data management policies and standards.
Experience with relevant project management tools and methodologies (Agile, Design thinking, Kanban, etc.).
Demonstrated executive engagement and presentation skills.
