The Quality Data Scientist is an experienced, highly skilled and technically proficient member of the health system Quality Department with the ability to combine computer science, modeling, statistics, analytics and math skills along with business sense to identify patterns, trends and issues, transform data for key stakeholders using data visualization tools and methods and risk adjustment models to share insight and help organize data in order to make objective decisions, and help solve complex problems. This role provides real time education, consultation and support to physicians to help them understand key performance indicators or quality, safety and patient experience. Additionally, gives clear, concise and engaging updates to health system executives, providers and oversight committees outlining important trends, gaps and other relevant insights.
The Quality Department includes quality management, safety and risk management, patient experience, infection prevention, care management, utilization management, nurse call and transfer centers and accreditation management. The Quality Data Scientist identifies and integrates data sets from disparate sources and methodically executes analytical strategies to optimize use of data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and/or Excel for key stakeholders. Skilled at analyzing data for trends and patterns, interpreting data and clearly communicating key findings.
The Quality Data Scientist works closely and collaboratively with quality department team members as well as medical, nursing and clinical leadership on small, medium and large scale projects to utilize data to identify improvement strategies to continually improve quality, patient safety and patient experience. Candidates for the position must possess a passion for discovering solutions and collaborating with clinicians to improve patient outcomes.
What you will do
- Effectively work with the Senior Vice President, Quality and quality department leaders to develop effective and efficient methods for data visualization and distribution of dashboards and reports that are accurate, timely and meaningful on a regular distribution schedule, in addition to ad hoc reports and small, medium and large scale projects as assigned to improve, quality, patient safety and patient experience. Provide clear, concise, and engaging updates to providers, executives, and oversight committees outlining important trends, gaps, and other relevant insights.
- Mine, consolidate, and analyze data from disparate sources to drive clinical optimization and improvements in quality, patient safety and patient experience. Demonstrates adeptness in designing, building, and querying relational databases using the latest technology and methods. Expertise in ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) techniques, SQL (Structured Query Language) and SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) or equivalent skill set.
- Design and develop data visualizations that allow executive leaders, quality department leaders, clinicians and managers to better manage quality, safety and patient experience outcomes. Collaborates with others throughout the system on assigned small, medium and large scale projects to produce interactive tools that drive improved decision making based on all available data sets.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Quality Data and Analytics to collect, store, and organize relevant internal and external data into a functioning data warehouse, complete with proper documentation of data definitions, sources, and use. The Director of Quality Data and Analytics works closely with Information Systems, Business Intelligence, and other internal experts to optimize data storage and management for access and reporting.
- Is aware of and uses quality improvement and change management methods and tools in supporting and working with teams and work groups to achieve desired outcomes.
