Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. Our goal is to help you build a career roadmap that provides you with challenging and rewarding learning experiences with Serco.
Serco offers internship opportunities across the following three career tracks: Business, Technical, and Engineering. Our 2023 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada, beginning on May 22 nd and concluding on August 11 th , with 1 week off July 3 rd -7 th . You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you, working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company to better prepare you for a full-time career. Furthermore, we believe great ideas come from all levels of the company! Each year we challenge our interns to work in diverse teams to develop, propose and execute on a project that improves our ways of working. Throughout this project you will work with Senior Sponsors and meet with members of our Executive Team.

As a Data Analytics Intern for the Department of Labor VETS TAP contract, you will participate in a variety of activities assisting with producing reports for transition pilot programs, spotting patterns from performance metrics, and analyzing survey data. You will gain core analytical experience in areas such as critical thinking, data visualization, presentation skills, data mining and maintaining databases.
Having exposure to these capabilities will better prepare you to be a well-rounded data analyst professional and provide an opportunity to develop your skills and demonstrate your abilities and character in a real-world setting. Moreover, it is an opportunity for personal and professional growth while learning something new.
Over the course of the summer, you will network and interface with critical business leaders to include our CEO and members of our Executive Management Team (EMT). You will report to Dennis Jacobi [ LinkedIn] . Dennis leads the Analytical Team with over nine years of experience with Serco spanning three different contracts.
In this role, you will:
- Assists in developing, designing and analyzing surveys relating to transition assistance programs
- Produces static and dynamic data visualizations to communicate with a wide range of audiences ranging from DOL VETS TAP leadership to Transitioning Service Members regarding performance data
- Assists in the generation of recurring reports (weekly and monthly) for pilot transition assistance programs
- Performs research on public data sources regarding military transition assistance programs
- Assists with SharePoint documentation of data analysis projects.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Preferred fields of study: Business, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science or a related field of study.
- Ideal candidates are energetic and self-motivated rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, or spring 2023 graduates.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint familiarity.
- Comfortable working with various sized datasets.
- Must be very detail-oriented and reliable.
- Experience with data modeling and mapping.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.
- Understanding of data management and business intelligence terminology and best practices.
- This position is contingent upon your ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
This role is also suited for the following skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
