Job Description: Job Summary

Responsible for providing technical, functional, tactical, and strategic Leadership for SIMS Analytics Team in Safety & Security. Manages a team of Analysts responsible for the completion of analysis, reporting, and business intelligence functions in the Safety Information Management System (SIMS) in support of the Safety Management System (SMS). Supports cross-departmental Safety data analysis efforts across Southwest Airlines.

Responsibilities

Contributes to and executes strategic priorities of the Safety & Security Department while contributing to the overall enterprise Safety management efforts.

Applies subject matter expert knowledge to manage the SIMS Analytics Team for the Safety & Security Department and its Customers

Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization; presents Safety information to Executive Leadership; Translates complex data and information into digestible knowledge and recommendations for Leadership

Facilitates identification, development, and testing of process improvements with emphasis on analytics and internal technology processes, including streamlining of existing processes. Works to improve Teamโ€™s abilities to produce customized reporting and technology solutions, enabling and enhancing self-service reporting infrastructure

Provides Leadership to industry data sharing activities through organizations including, but not limited to, A4A and the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) system

Manages relationships with Safety representatives from all operational departments, as well as regulatory authorities and governing bodies (FAA, NTSB, ICAO, etc.) regarding the development and management of analytics as it relates to the SWA SMS

Represents SWA on industry Safety committees, councils, boards, and at Safety related conferences and symposiums, including (as needed) A4A, ASIAS, IATA, FSF, and ISASI

Develops and implements Continuous Improvement strategies to increase the quality and productivity of SIMS Analytics

Functions as liaison with Operational Department Leaders with regards to all aspects of Safety Analytics

May perform other job duties as directed by Employeeโ€™s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Expert knowledge in analytical and reporting tools (such as Tableau, Alteryx, R, or similar), as well as Microsoft Office tools

Knowledge of regulatory frameworks with ability to maintain regulatory compliance while leading Team through process improvements

Highly skilled in public speaking and presentation of sometimes highly technical information to audiences of various technical backgrounds

Expert skills in collecting, understanding, analyzing, and communicating complex data across multiple domains and data types

Skilled at leading change and continuous improvement to build great Teams and cross-functional partnerships

Ability to manage multiple focus areas and shift priorities as needed to meet time-sensitive and urgent requests while maintaining ongoing work

Ability to be highly flexible and to adapt quickly to execute in support of changing organizational and business needs

Ability to develop Team Members through goal setting, ongoing performance feedback, training and development plans, career path discussions, and identification of project assignments to further develop skills

Ability to provide analytics thought Leader at Southwest Airlines, collaborating with the Team to propose and develop insights on meaningful analytical and technology solutions; translates data and information into actionable knowledge and business intelligence to support sound Safety decisions

Ability to provide Southwest Airlines hospitality to ensure Employees and Customers feel welcomed, cared for, and appreciated

Strong ability to provide guidance, support, and mentoring to Team members to help them leverage their strengths to develop their skills and abilities to succeed in current and future roles at Southwest Airlines Education

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)

Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:
Safety or analytics

Data analytics and business intelligence software and best practices, artificial intelligence principles, cloud computing, and/or machine learning

Licensing/Certification

NA

Physical Abilities

Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time

Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines

Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Some business travel based on Safety & Security Department needs

May require extended work hours per Leaderโ€™s request

Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
