Responsibilities:

State Farm is seeking an experienced Data Engineer who would enjoy joining a high performing collaborative team of engineers who delight in working across several business domains. The talent this team is searching for would bring proficiency in ETL, data integration, reusable data pipelines, data management, data analytics and data visualization. This role offers an opportunity to interact with senior leadership so strong oral and written communication skills are helpful to tell the data story.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Understanding in programming (e.g., Python, SQL, Clojure, Java), and database and data storage functionality (e.g., SQL, NOSQL) and applies that understanding to build reusable data solutions.
  • Understanding in data engineering topics, including ETL (extract, transform, load), data integration, reusable data pipelines, data management, data analytic, data visualization.
  • Applies skills, tools, security processes, applications, environments, and programming language(s) to complete medium scale assignments.
  • Applies data engineering practices to design full-stack applications using industry-adopted languages and framework
  • Possesses an understanding of how technology solutions meet the business outcomes and offers a range of solutions for business partners; understand business current and aspirational needs
  • Participates in sprint planning; provides work estimates to deliver product stories; owns development stories
  • Develops solutions on variety of platforms according to business requirements
  • Completes required coding to satisfy the defined acceptance criteria and deliver desired outcome
  • Assists in development of automated testing and supporting code as necessary
  • Completes required documentation to communicate information to deployment, maintenance, and business teams
  • Utilizes agile software development practices, data and testing standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous delivery, and software architecture
  • Designs, develops, tests, and supports software in support of big data objectives
  • Considers applying emerging technology solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness; expectation of continuous innovation
  • Provides product and/or process expertise necessary to support design, development, testing, and execution of solutions

Qualifications:

Required skills:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience
  • Data knowledge (DB2, SQL, and/or Postgres)
  • Knowledge of SOAP and/or RESTful web services
  • Open to learn and explore emerging trends and best practices.
  • Leverages knowledge to complete assigned work
  • Experience with gathering and creating business requirements, product design, data design and testing
  • Knowledge of version control and DevOps tools similar to Gitlab
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics or related field, preferred
  • Experience with AWS data & analytic service i.e. Redshift, Aurora, Quick Sight, preferred
  • Experience with NEO4J, graph database, a plus
  • AWS certification, a plus
