The Syngenta Analytics and Data Sciences team is seeking a Deep Learning Scientist with a passion for defining, designing, experimenting, and evaluating product-focused solutions and for delivering business insights by utilizing data mining, machine learning and deep learning methods, computer vision, and natural language processing. As a Deep Learning Scientist, you will be part of a dynamic team that supports Research and Development objectives to transform our business. In this role you will help transform digital agriculture by:
- Utilizing rigorous image analytics and data science approaches to help transform our Seeds product development pipeline to deliver maximum value to our growers and sustainability to agriculture.
- Drive and develop new image & video analytics algorithms, computer vision (CV) procedures that include image processing, machine learning and deep learning-based approaches for trait extraction from remote sensing systems (UAV, satellites) and other sensing modalities.
- Identify viable image analytics and data science opportunities and test, develop, validate, and implement end-to end analytical solutions
- Create prototypes to address needs and enhance fundamental decision-making
- Research and apply the latest machine learning and deep learning methodologies to address Seeds Development challenges
- Evaluate algorithm performanceโvalidate findings using a trial and iterative approach and effectively communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
- Identify data needs and provide recommendations; efficiently process, clean, and verify the integrity of data used for analyses
- Support implementation of digital phenotyping strategies and projects through implementation and deployment of computer vision and image analysis algorithms
- PhD or Masterโs degree with equivalent experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Engineering or related quantitative field
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience in Deep Learning, Machine Learning, programming, data modelling and evaluation, probability and answering questions in high-dimensional datasets
- 2+ years of practical experience applying Deep Learning and Machine Learning to solve real-world problems or relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience
- 2+ year of experience in computer vision (CV)/Image analytics preferably in a research environment
- Expert knowledge of image processing and analysis procedures for the quantitative extraction of traits from remote and proximal sensing systems (2D and 3D) including machine-learning (classifiers, regression, clustering, feature selection and dimensionality reduction) and deep learning-based algorithms, preferably in a life sciences context focused on biological or agricultural Research and Development
- Demonstrated experience and skills in programming image analytics, statistical data analysis, clustering/classification, multivariate analysis and machine learning
- Expertise in data wrangling, mining, and modelling
- Experience effectively collaborating across science disciplines, Information Technology and Engineering to deliver scalable, end-to-end solution
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with SQL and AWS
- Experience using a programming language (Python, C/C++, Matlab) for Machine Learning or a statistical computer language (R, Python, SQL) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
- Research and practical experience in the computer vision and machine learning domain
- Understanding of sensor calibration, image processing and algorithm development of pixel data.
- Sound understating of AI, Augmented Reality, Sensor Analytics, GIS environments would be preferred
- Experience with open-source software like ImageJ, Fiji and OpenCV
- Experience in Machine Learning and Deep Learning libraries such as TensorFlow, Keras, MXNet, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn
- Familiarity with common and state of the art CNN architectures for object detection, image segmentation and classification.
- Familiarity working with version control system (e.g. Git, CVS, SVN,etc).
- Familiarity working with cloud computing technologies and conducting experiments on cloud-based datasets (e.g. Databricks, Azure, AWS EMR, AWS S3, AWS EKS, Docker, KubeFlow, etc).
- Experience with visualization and rapid prototyping tools (R Shiny, Spotfire, Power BI)
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker and the Agile Methodology
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts in imaging-based automated plant phenotyping and statistics
- Demonstrated success in being a key player in a complex results-oriented research program requiring scientific creativity, innovative thinking, organization, communication & collaborative skills
