Description:

This position is at the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (GRC), which engages in quality improvement, applied health services and population health research in a project-based, team setting. The Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Centerโ€™s mission is to identify, research, and spread innovative practices to improve access to quality healthcare for all Ohioans through partnerships with healthcare, state, and academic leaders. The GRCโ€™s current work encompasses critical issues and challenges in public health and health services, including the COVID-19 pandemic, maternal and infant mortality, the ongoing opioid crisis, Ohioโ€™s ACA Medicaid expansion, management of chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, health equity, and health system payment innovation. The candidate for this position will focus on providing technical and methodological expertise in applied statistical methodology, data analysis, and interactive data visualizations. The candidate will supervise two or more junior research staff and may serve as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator of one or more projects.

Typical responsibilities are project-specific and may include combinations of the following:

  • Leads the development of and provides technical assistance for research design, statistical methodology, data collection, data analysis, statistical programming, and interpretation of research results;
  • Plans for and creates interactive data visualizations in R-Shiny and/or Tableau;
  • Coordinates and reviews the work of researchers assigned to projects;
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises student researchers and multiple junior research staff;
  • Serves as liaison to project partners and sponsors;
  • Serves as a principal or co-principal investigator for selected projects;
  • Composes reports, whitepapers, and presentation materials;
  • Presents results to project sponsors and other audiences;
  • Advises sponsors on the policy implications of research results;
  • Leads the preparation of responses to funding opportunities;
  • Assists with the identification of funding opportunities;
  • Assists with the development of conference abstracts/presentations and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.


Experience and Education:


Required
:

  • Masterโ€™s degree in a relevant field of study;
  • Advanced usage of a statistical programming language (R, SAS, Python, Stata);
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience with a masterโ€™s degree or 3 years of relevant work experience with a doctorate with evidence of increasing responsibilities.


Preferred:

  • Substantial experience (3+ years) in public health or health services research;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Experience as a Principal or Co-Principal Investigator on externally funded projects.
  • Substantial experience (5+ years) providing expertise in data analysis, data visualization, and statistical methodology to applied research projects.


Job Duties:

50% – Leads the development of and provides technical assistance for research design, statistical methodology, data collection, data analysis, statistical programming, and interpretation of research results; plans for and creates interactive data visualizations in R-Shiny and/or Tableau.

30% – Coordinates the activities of researchers assigned to projects; recruits, hires, trains and supervises student researchers and junior research staff; serves as liaison to project partners and sponsors; serves as a principal investigator for selected projects.

10% – Composes reports, whitepapers, and presentation materials; presents results to project sponsors and other audiences; helps to advise sponsors on the policy implications of research results.

5% – Assists with the preparation of responses to funding opportunities; assists with the identification of funding opportunities; assists with the development of conference abstracts/presentations and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

5% – Other duties as assigned.
