The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Patient Financial Services is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst (PIX1) to help develop and implement tools to support the analytics demands of the UI Health Care revenue cycle. Areas of focus include scorecard/dashboard development, operational and productivity performance analysis, and operational and financial benchmarking. This position will collaborate with teams of revenue cycle leaders, clinical leaders, administrators, and data warehouse architects to develop, create, and present business analytics related to the UI Healthcare revenue cycle
Patient Billing Services (PBS) RCR’s provide exceptional customer service to our external customers: patients, insurance contacts, etc; as well as internal customers. You will support UIHC’s “Service Excellence” standards to all our customer groups, utilize tools and processes to make independent decisions and will maintain integrity and treat internal and external customers respectfully.
This position is primarily a combination of remote and onsite (hybrid) work locations. Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the State of Iowa. Training will be held ONSITE at the HSSB building at a length determined by the supervisor. Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training opportunity. Successful candidates must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies.
Position Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal customer/stakeholders to define and document data, analytics, and modeling requirements.
- Assist in the preparation, cleansing, and verification of data.
- Fulfill ad-hoc data requests.
- Perform basic data manipulation and analysis techniques.
- Create reports and schedule data extracts
- Document data analytics solutions and models
- Connect stakeholders to existing solutions
- Provide first tier end user support and training for data solutions and platforms
- Document data sources, transformations and models.
- Basic understanding of statistics and data analytics
- Contribute ideas. Seek ways to improve assigned processes

Pay Grade: 3B
Salary: $48,000 to $60,000
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and experience
- 1 year+ of experience using databases, business intelligence, spreadsheet, and presentation software tools for financial operational analysis
- Understanding of SQL reporting skills with the ability to create SQL views and write SQL queries
- Understanding of data visualization/reporting tools
- Demonstrated ability to turn raw data into actionable information via analytic methods
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Time management skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to use creative thinking when working with data
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of reporting tools (Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or other similar tools.)
- Previous hands-on experience building metrics, balanced scorecards, key performance indicators, data analysis
- Ability to find crucial data dimensions and data quality issues in a complex data warehouse
- Proficiency with Microsoft software applications including: Access, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, FrontPage, Visio, Project, and Word.
- Knowledge of the healthcare revenue cycle and corresponding data and metrics
- Experience in identifying opportunities for operational improvement, using creative efforts to bring about solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and complex situations.
