WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
Cradle 2 Career is a community-wide initiative working to get children and their families the resources they need, when they need them, to be successful in school and life. As a community, we can achieve excellence for everyone by being courageous, by mobilizing the best resources, and by inspiring individuals to live boldly and collectively for positive change. Our work and workplace is informed by our values: community, courage, progress, and results.
HOW YOU’D FIT IN AND STAND OUT
- This role is managed by the Director of Data and Research and sits on Cradle 2 Career’s Data & Research Team, a team of 3 full-time staff and 3 part-time staff. Our team has strengths-based culture and finds value in diverse skills and strengths.
- We are looking for someone to provide data support to our special grants, network members, and launch our data repository. This will include working across multiple database systems, tracking reporting requirements and timelines, and co-creating custom reports with community partners.
- This role also provides support for research, evaluation, and reporting activities within our network of community partners. You will have the opportunity to engage community experts and other researchers in the work as you see fit.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
The data analyst will be primarily responsible for the collection and analysis of raw data, along with developing the tools to aid in data collection. This role involves both qualitative and quantitative analysis skills but leans more towards qualitative analysis.
SPECIAL GRANTS (25% of time)
The data analyst will act as the evaluator for a number of grants, held either by C2C or our community partners. As a program evaluator, the exact role will vary depending on the grant but typically includes some combination of the activities listed below. We typically hold 2-3 special grants at a time.
- scheduling and completing site observations
- engaging participants in providing feedback on grant activity
- collecting and analyzing raw data in order to complete grant reporting requirements
- participating on various stakeholder teams associated with each grant
DATA SUPPORT TO NETWORKS (25% of time)
In the course of establishing, running, and evaluating projects, our network partners routinely make requests of Cradle 2 Career to inform their decision making. Primarily, those requests consist of the following:
- conducting literature reviews
- collecting participant feedback
- setting and measuring baseline data
- developing and implementing an evaluation of completed projects
DATA REPOSITORY (25% of time)
Communicating about our work and the data generated by Cradle 2 Career is of vital importance to the organization. We envision an engaging online collection of local data collected by both us and community partners. This data would be accessible to a general audience and be updated/maintained by the data analyst.
- developing our annual report in conjunction with the communications team
- formatting and posting C2C data reports to our website
- working closely with our communications team to promote our work
- learning field-specific trends and activity in order to keep our repository current
You probably don’t have specific work experience in each of these areas, and that’s okay. We expect our new Data Analyst will have done some but not all of these types of tasks in the past. As we are a small non-profit, the remaining 25% of the time in this portfolio will be dedicated to other duties as assigned, which often include staff development, special events, and routine office activities such as check-ins and all-staff meetings. We will provide support for on-the-job learning, as long as you possess the core competencies described below.
THIS JOB IS FOR YOU IF YOU
Feel passionate about improving educational systems and outcomes. Enjoy working with both people and data. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Are comfortable learning new technologies. Possess the following core competencies:
- Ability to work on diverse teams: This role serves multiple teams, each with their own ways of working, communicating, and interacting with one another. You will also be engaged with a number of partners from across the community, many of whom serve specific cultural groups. Your ability to work well with others across different mindsets and communication styles will help you succeed in supporting each team.
- Passion for community-engaged data collection: Teams are looking for ways to learn from their participants in ways that are more engaging than a traditional survey or focus group. Use your imagination to collect high-quality, high-impact data to drive program decisions.
- Refuse to let the perfect get in the way of progress: Community-engaged data collection is far messier than traditional research. Waiting for perfection often means missing the window for opportunity. The ideal candidate is able to work with ambiguity while ensuring data rigor to meaningfully inform our work.
- Interest in self-teaching and keeping current with trends in the field: The field of community-engaged data collection is quickly developing, and technologies are constantly updating. Enjoying learning, seeking out opportunities to practice new techniques, and a desire to learn from peers in the field will keep your work creative and up-to-date.
- Are comfortable with data: At the core, this role is about collecting, analyzing, and assisting others in interpreting data. You are comfortable navigating large data sets and providing analysis. You are equally comfortable saying ‘I don’t know’ to difficult data questions and then self-teaching to fill that particular skills gap.
- Project management skills: Working across teams means balancing competing priorities, keeping track of progress, and communicating needs and status in a timely manner.
HOURS:
- Our typical work week is 37.5 hours.
- Located in Olmsted County – We are looking to hire a resident or someone willing to live within daily commuting distance, as we are rooted in our local community. Some in-person meetings and activities are required as safety permits.
- Typical office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm.
- We offer flexible work schedules to meet individual and family needs, and we need you to be available during peak times to meet with internal and external stakeholders. We are willing to work together to make sure employee and organizational needs are met.
- Hybrid/remote work options are available on an individual basis.
- Occasional availability outside of typical office hours is expected for special events, as individual circumstances allow.
