Job Summary
Determines business information needs and identifies system requirements. Analyzes business intelligence data and provides reports. Acts as liaison between U of U Health Finance Team and other business units. Ensures data accuracy. Responsible for creating ad hoc and recurring reports and analysis that combine financial, operational, and organizational data. The incumbent must develop mastery of data sources in our enterprise data warehouse, which is accessed through SQL, VBA, SAP EPM, and Tableau. Successful performance is demonstrated by accuracy, thoughtfulness, presentation of work deliverables, adhering to timelines, working effectively as a member of the U of U Health Finance Team, and dependability.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Collects and coordinates business requirements for analytics, reporting, and business process refinement.
  • Utilizes technical tools to build system-level business solutions.
  • Exercises expertise in BI tool architecture, functions, features, and customizes BI tools to meet needs.
  • Determines statistical methods used to analyze data.
  • Provides information related to planning, policy development, work methods and procedures, manpower utilization, organizational structure, distribution of assignments, and information management.
  • Provides program and operations research and analysis.
  • Conducts studies, productivity analyses, and surveys to improve systems.
  • Analyzes new program plans, goals, and objectives.
  • Assists in the preparation and evaluation of special projects.
  • Designs forms tables, graphs, and charts to for summarizing information.
  • Prepares technical documents and presentations that clearly and effectively communicate the Supports the annual budget process, including the personnel preparing budgets and the budget application.
  • Engages and interacts with leadership throughout University of Utah Health.
  • May be assigned special projects requiring a knowledge of governmental and business accounting practices
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Expertise using data warehouse or analytical tools for business purposes.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements.
  • Experience working and effectively communicating with technical colleagues.
  • Proven ability to work and effectively communicate with administrators and physician leaders.
  • Functional experience with BI tool architectures, functions, and features.
  • Functional experience using SQL and relational and multidimensional database designs.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong functional experience using VBA, to create business solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of Finance, Accounting, Business, IT or Healthcare Administration and equivalency and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.

Preferences
A successful candidate will also have;
  • A Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with Oracle, VBA, Tableau, R and R Studio is desired.
  • Can work cooperatively and effectively in the context of a large, highly complex academic medical center.
  • Effective communication skills, creativity, analytical acumen, technical aptitude, dependability, and a strong work ethic are needed.
  • Work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Must be able to transition effectively as projects are reprioritized.
  • Needs to be able thrive in situations that demand high performance under short deadlines.
  • Advanced experience in Excel is required.
  • Applied knowledge of SQL, VBA, and BI tools.
