An Associate Benefits Data Analyst will:

  • Play a vital role in the success of existing group’s annual re-enrollment and the on-going management of new hire eligibility and elections.
  • Work with business partners during their annual re-enrollment period.
  • Be responsible for verifying all offered benefits and eligibility rules, managing milestones, duplicating the existing application set-ups or making minor modifications as necessary.
  • Test the enrollment solution to ensure that the employer’s administrative practices are properly reflected in the enrollment solution as well as in the post-enrollment information exchanged with carriers and internal partners.
  • Monitor the live enrollment process, and delivers eligibility and deduction files in a timely manner.
  • This is a multi level position.


Essential Duties:

  • Work closely with sales, account managers, partner agencies or senior members of the team to schedule the group’s re-enrollment, verify changes to benefits and/or administrative rules and obtain the most recent group census.
  • Duplicate the group’s enrollment application and modifies the configuration based on changes requested by the group.
  • Ensure the credibility of the enrollment solution as well a positive experience for groups and their employees
  • Determine key deliverables.
  • Develops, maintains or modifies documentation to reflect the group’s benefits and administrative rules for new groups or re-enrollments. Effectively communicates milestones, assesses and mitigates project risk, and works closely with all partners to ensure customer acceptance and satisfaction.
  • Develop, duplicate or modify test scenarios which reflect each instance of the group’s benefits offering.
  • Test enrollment platform based on developed scenarios; document results and work with senior members of the team to resolve complex configuration related problems.
  • Release application for enroller testing and modifies based on feedback.
  • Validate and deliver election and/or deduction files to the appropriate internal or external partners.
  • Track processing of files to ensure employee access to insurance services and payroll deductions are accurately updated and billing correctly reflects changes to participation and premium as a result of a successful enrollment.
  • Analyze the group’s most recent census information to ensure that benefits match the defined rules.
  • Work with senior members of the team when working with complex data comparisons or data consolidation from multiple sources.
  • Work with Team Lead to identify improvements to the platform and improve the overall enrollment experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable about benefits administration including eligibility rules, annual and new hire enrollment cycles
  • Good data analytical skills: able to understand, develop and test the relationships between configured rules, eligibility scenarios, data sources, and data output
  • Effective troubleshooting ability: able to recognize discrepancies by working backward from expected outcomes and data output to configuration settings and benefits requirements
  • Able to resolve simple configuration issues
  • Strong work management skills: knows how to manage multiple enrollment requests simultaneously, tracking and communicating milestones and risks
  • Effective written and oral communication skills demonstrating knowledge of benefits administration process when working with enrollers, account managers, groups, vendors or distribution partners
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite especially Excel and business writing tools like Word and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of PowerPoint, Visio or comparative applications


Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Information Systems, Accounting, or Business Analysis. May substitute certifications in relevant fields and/or equivalent work experience for education.
  • 1 year experience in Insurance Administration or Employee Benefits Administration.
  • 1 or more years’ experience with annual enrollment projects or enrollment applications.
  • Or, equivalent military experience


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with focus in Information Systems, Finance, Accounting or certification(s) in a related field(s).
  • 1 or more years’ experience with annual enrollment projects or enrollment applications.

A Benefits Data Analyst I will:

  • Work with new and existing groups who have smaller employee populations and whose benefits offering, administrative rules, enrollment needs and data structures are of a low to moderate complexity.
  • Work with business partners and employer groups during their annual re-enrollment period.
  • Gather all offered benefits and administration rules, and configure a new enrollment platform for groups new to Enrollment Services.
  • Duplicate and/or modify an existing platform.
  • Articulate pre-formatted, excel based data exchange layouts, reviews and validates census data against the administrative rules and tests all enrollment scenarios.
  • Monitor the live enrollment and delivers eligibility and deduction files accurately and on time.

  • For re-enrollments, duplicate the group’s enrollment application and modify the configuration based on changes requested by the group.
  • For groups new to USAble Life’s Enrollment Solutions: configure a new application which reflects offered benefits, administrative rules, enrollment approach and eligibility data.
  • Ensure a positive experience as well as credibility in the enrollment solution.

  • Able to understand and configure an enrollment platform based on moderately complex eligibility requirements, administrative rules, source data and data output
  • Good data analytical skills: able to understand, develop and test the relationships between configured rules, eligibility scenarios, data sources, and data output
  • Strong troubleshooting ability: able to trace causes of discrepancies by working backward from expected outcomes and data output to configuration settings and benefits requirements
  • Use understanding of platform capability to independently resolve configuration issues
  • Strong work management skills: knows how to manage multiple enrollment requests simultaneously, tracking and communicating milestones and risks
